Just when I thought my Khumo (korean for crap) were going to last more than 20,000km, it appears they will need replacement in the next few weeks.

I am hoping that we can get some ideas on what we can get locally and imported for our cars. This thread is only for the 20" tires, as the 18" have more selection.

Can people who have non OEM tires report they success/failures on replacement tires for our cars.

I am after road tires, not offroad, but this thread is for all types.

20" Tyre Thread

I'm quite certain my alignment is rite but I'll get it checked again this week at the 4x4 suspension shop.

Lugs seem quite tough for off-road rather than soft. Yeh I know the nitto website seem to rate them 4/5 for quietness. I'd rate them 2-3/5 . I'll be quiet sure all other a/t and l/t to be worst though. Anything below 90km/h it's noticeable, above that it is compensated with wind noise/engine.

Re: 20" Tyre Thread

Tell you the truth i thought my last alignment was right it took them two go's. They didnt understand the car needed to be in aero mode. But somehow when i just got another due to fitting larger rims it was out. So i explained again and gave them the measurements. Turns out they reckon during a smoko break and resetting the ignition it returned to auto height this is where they then went wrong.
My advise get it checked.

Yeh been there before, kind of. Only without air suspension.

Do like the looks about the nitto, but that's about it.

I'm Back!!! Nitto's are a tad noisy, but absolutely awesome grip on the road both in both dry and wet.............I mean extremely wet weather. They have a terrific resistance to aquaplaning. Off road performance reviews speak for themselves. Mine have done 27k and look to be holding up pretty well and are driven very hard. I had a specialist alignment done after a few hundred kms where it was revealed the car was set up for driving on the right (wrong:D) side of the road. Bolts had to be reversed out (swapped from left to right) on the front end to set up the alignment properly that instantly lost the tendency of the front tyres "digging in" when cornering. (caster angles I think were way outside of tolerance).

Would I go again? I love the look and performance however I will probably swap to something quieter and keep the Nitto's for off road trips before they get too worn.

You've done that many km already since your last post? Well I got a while till I'm due for another change unless I get a set of new rims with street radials... Getting the alignment another look this Friday, in case anything is out.

But the nittos are rated as relatively quiet on their site.

Having read all the posts, I feel the Nittos could be a decent choice, considering that I can get the OEM size. I am just a little bit worried about the fact that I only take my GC off-road 2 or 3 times in a year and it is mostly Fraser or Moreton Island. Being this the case, should I actually go for AT Tyres, or should I just stick with the normal road tyres?

Also, does someone know where can I get Nittos in Brisbane, in case I decide to go down this path?

OK, let's be logical about this. You know you will be way better off with road tires from the point of view of cost, fuel economy, the environment, handling, safety, comfort and the law. BORING! You want those AT tyres don't you? Well, go get them! Life is too short.

Crawling over closely packed pine logs is one thing, driving all day at 100kph on an outback gravel road in an Aussie summer is quite another.

I just ordered 4 BFG AT T/A K02 275/55R20LT 115S tires from Les Schwab in Coos Bay Oregon They don't sell BFG so had to order them in. Paid 313 per tire incl. Alignment, mount and balance. Not Cheap but not too many good choices for the 20" wheel, I almost tried an 18" wheel, but decided against it, tolerances too close with the brakes (= I'm chicken) :)

I just put 295/45r20 Toyo Proxes ST II's on my new 20x10 Goliath's. After 250 miles, I must say that I LOVE them...great on-road handling, much smoother ride than the Pirelli run-flats and got the 50k mile warranty (for less than $90)!! They are not as stiff in the corners, but I only have the psi @ 35 right now so I plan to bump that up to around 40 psi and see if that helps with stiffening up the sidewalls under hard cornering. I could not justify spending $2500/year on the Pirelli's since I only got 12k miles out of them (they maybe had 1-2k miles left; inside tread was almost completely shot). These weigh 5lbs lighter (per tire) than the Pirelli's, so I am getting 2 mpg's better on the highway (20 to over 22 mpg's with the Toyo's; combined driving has gone up 1 mpg as well). Love the tread pattern, side-wall is "ok" as far as aesthetics...but I am very happy with my purchase. I will update this thread as time goes along.

FYI I paid $1k for tires/mount & road-force balancing/50k tire warranty/nitrogen/re-learn TPMS/tire disposal AND 3yr/36k mile unlimited rotation and alignment!!! This was done through Big Brand Tire. Great deal IMO

Thank you! I had an 08 with the non-VVT 5.7L...it was a great engine...and yours is even better...but man the 6.4L is just insane. To have a 5k SUV go 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds (my PB is 4.3) just blows my mind...every time I drive it I forget that it's actually mine and that I don't have to give it back. Save up and you could find a low mileage 2014 SRT in the next year or so and get a great deal...I bought mine used with 4k miles
