I have heard that the 2012 model no longer comes with front recovery hooks. Does anyone have one to confirm if its true. Or do they come with the of road pack even???:(

My order was based on the assumption they were there on all models... I have ordered the ORA II pack on mine, and they better be there!!

Once I get my VON/VIN, hopefully the build sheet from Milous will confirm/deny, they I will be following up with the Dealer!

Where did you hear that? That might be the case in the States but I believe they are still standard on all aussie models.

Looking at my build sheet - If they are called "XEVS tow eye brackets" then they are listed as part of the standard build. If not then they might be part of the "ABAA Australia equipment group".

Hi Mendo

I got the info from the Ausjeep web site:

2012 Grand Cherokee models no longer come with front Tow Hooks.
Apparently to meet Euro Pedestrian Impact Regulations!!!!

Jeep Australia could have had them put in the back of the car and fitted them here prior to delivery but no... that would be the common sense approach.

Ask your dealer for a quote and it will be $900+ for parts plus fitting!
Go to Just For Jeeps .com and they will land them at your door for $273 direct from the US.
We have customers expecting them on their new Grand Cherokee too!
The 2011 has them standard.

Thanks Sege,

I'm not really concerned because I'm removing them to fit an ECB bullbar, but I had asked the dealer to keep the front air dam and hooks if I ever decided to remove the bar.

It is disappointing we find this stuff out on these forums rather from the dealers. I would imagine they have received some 2012 models by now.....

I asked the dealer where I purchased my Jeep from and this was the reply - I guess all is fine still?

You will still have recovery points but instead of being a fixed bracket now they screw into the car so you can use them as you need them . Feel free to come down to the show room and I can show you how they work.

Thanks darthgus that is encouraging, but I wonder if we have to purchase them as an extra option? Knowing Jeep Australia. But lets hope not if originally they were included in the 2011!

As mentioned on that TalkingJeepOz site, it says the following after re-reading;

They do come with the screw in tie down hook which is NOT suitable for any recovery.
Now trying to find out info about these screw in tie down hooks - if they arent for recovery what is the point of them?

I dont know about the overland but the laradeo and the limited do not have them, i have seen mine, it is a 2012 and their gone. It might cost $900 to put them on, so the car is the same price but missing some parts..

I went in to look at a 2012 and the screw in pin doesn't all that strong - i'm not an expert but think it would be sufficient for towing but i doubt it would be any good for full on sand, mud, snow recovery.

On the upside ECB have confirmed the big tube bullbar has rated recovery points welded to steel mounts.

we picked up our 2012 Overland on the weekend and can confirm NO front recovery hooks. We haven't located the "screw" in eyebolts either.....

Did notice that there is a rear recovery hook under the rear of the vehicle though.

It is a 25cm long galvanized eyebolt that is in the styrofoam spare tyre insert. I believe you flip off a cover on the driver's side where the tow hook would have been and it screws into there.

Without all the light weight materials such as styrofoam and polycarbonate headlight covers, plastic skid plates etc, Imagine how much the beast would weigh?

That is shitty that they cut that needed piece of gear. While I hope to never need one, it is nice to have it. Being forced to pay $'000's for it stinks.
I would write a email to Chrysler au and see if they might do something. Maybe contact them through the Facebook page.

Mmmmm, I have tried the facebook thing with absolutely no response, hence I have tried Milous at least Jeep USA seem to be customer / brand focussed.

My understanding is that you only get the hooks if you have the off-road adventure pack II. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

Spoke to my dealer today re the Front Recovery hooks , Explained I test drove a Overland with tow hooks and that what I expect to recieve.
Why would you buy a 4x4 if you cant recover it when you get bogged:lol:
I suggested he find some from a older 2011 model, As my overland isnt due until late Dec, we will have to wait and see.:slapfight:

It sucks that such a vital piece of recovery gear is sacrificed so soon into the production of what is proving to be a great 4X4.

Here's Bogged Scenario for a 2012 owners:

Good Samaritan: "bogged eh....need a tow out"?

Proud 2012 JGC Owner: "Yeah mate, thanks. I'll just loop the snatch strap around my 2 mirrors, it's all Jeep supplied on this model.......ready......"

Looks like this is either a dumb cost cutting measure or some fell asleep on the production line when these export babies were on it. I'd be dirty if they suddenly started appearing again!

I asked the dealer about this also, answe,r shoulder shrug, "Yeah thier definatly not on them", "well i thought they were on when i bought it", andswer "you would not complain if they had added something!" :(
Oh well.

Ha Ha. My response to that dealer, is "would you accept a car which was shown as having 4 seats, and now has 3?" Is there a diffence in the example?"
They can be supplied by Mopar, but it is a cost and a cumbersome fitting process.
