Looking at your avatar pic, that doesn't surprise me.

I drove up to Brisbane on 22nd Dec and when I got there ( in the traffic around Enoggera area 6-7pm sometime) a guy in a Blackhawk CRD flew past me.
Wasn't you was it?

Drove to work with sport mode on this morning. It does get up and boogy.
I know it switches some thing in the PCM to alter the auto's shift points but i think it's more that it also switches something in my brain (seeing the red ring on the speedo and the little flag), seemed to make my right foot heavier.

I don't think so Steve, but never say never I do live on that side of town. There is a few Blackhawks on the Northside.

Re: 2014 Grand cherokee diesel accelerator pedal

Thanks for all the excellent comment so far guys, i'm getting the feeling that turning Eco/HSA off improves the problem but doesn't quite eliminate it, would that be fair to say?

Interestingly, I spoke to a colleague who has the 5spd auto TD and he said no issues with throttle linearity at all so it's all in the 8 speeder!

No, not just an 8 speed thing, I simply suspect they are just so used to it now it is a non-issue. Similar for me, I rarely get caught by it now as I have adapted.
HSA is a killer, ECO off has less of an effect but helps.

Re: 2014 Grand cherokee diesel accelerator pedal

The new 8 speed has adaptive logic (years ago they called it "fuzzy logic) which supposedly learns your driving habits.

I think the 8 speed is a brilliant piece of kit, now that the programming is corrected for it.

Re: 2014 Grand cherokee diesel accelerator pedal

Thanks again guys, going to go back to the dealer, disable Eco and HSA and see if my wife is happy with it.

Eco has a button but i'm assuming HSA is buried in an menu somewhere, how do I disable it (the dealer isn't a Jeep dealer so know knowledge of it)?

Re: 2014 Grand cherokee diesel accelerator pedal

It's pretty much a trait inherent in all latter generation diesels.
I first noticed it when I drove one of the first diesel Territory's in my previous job.
My 5 speed can be caught out with it too, but you just learn to adapt your driving style to it. Don't expect to be able to lift off the pedal and floor it again after a second or so and expect instant throttle response.
They don't behave like a petrol engine. My wife has an MY12 Ford Focus diesel and it does it too, if you know how to provoke it. Drive it like a diesel and it's great, just like the Jeep.

Having said that, I too am thinking about the Bluespark, more power, better economy and "help" with minimising the throttle delay

Is this normal behaviour for the GC turbo diesel?
Hi Kizz302, That would about describe how mine MY14 Diesel drives, only had it a month but am getting used to it.

Mind you I drove a MY12 Petrol today as a loan service vehicle and i did notice how linear it was in comparison. It certainly took off smoother but once moving there was not a lot of difference.

Agree. Turning this off helps heaps.

Re: 2014 Grand cherokee diesel accelerator pedal

Thanks for the instructions Benn0.

I've driven the Sante Fe/Sorento 2.2 turbo diesels nd they don't have the same issue, never the less they aren't a Grand Cherokee

Have signed up for it and expecting delivery on Friday, many thanks once again for your help guys.

Re: 2014 Grand cherokee diesel accelerator pedal

I think she'll (and you will) get used to it. I barely notice it. I turned off Eco in the morning and did not get a significant difference. Maybe I'm just used to it by now.
