The payment was in Euro... I've got pretty blase about buying in foreign currency and only did a rough conversion in my head. All this kind of stuff is in the thread Snuke linked (which I couldn't be bothered doing while posting at the shops today).

The "Silver" package has great features for the price, however I simply wanted my caravan camera on when I select reverse... so I did a basic wiring hack into U-Connect for $5 plus a switched trailer socket. I don't really have any interest who's behind me when I'm going forward, plus when I aimed the van camera I'd only see the insanest of tailgaters anyway!

I do plan to write up the U-Connect wiring hack, actually I'm half done. It's pretty straight forward and works very nicely.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

We've had a bit of rain in Brissie over the weekend, I have been testing out the TC on some slippery sections, shortly after I had the ESC failure light come on, and then cruise control stopped working. Drove it for a couple days, then got a Service Air Suspension message (I was parked sideways on an incline). I tested the suspension and could raise and lower, so no obvious problem.

The next day the ESC light has gone away and the cruise control works again.....

I guess its a Jeep thing.

Not only does the ESC light on turn off cruise control - it also turns off 4WD. Can't even select low range, as I discovered when I was 200km up a 4wd road in the Kimberley, and 500km from the nearest Jeep service agent. It was intermittent too, and turned out to be a dirty wheel speed sensor.
EDIT: actually, I got that wrong - it was the ABS light that caused those issues, but it suspect they're all related.

Yeah, I'm concerned it may be a dodgy sensor.... I'll have to keep testing.

Ughhh... confidence inspiring. Allowing wheel speed sensor problems to prevent use of the low range locking feature is not smart at all, if indeed this is the case.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I'm not sure if this affected 4wd or not, I'll have to test it if I can get it to happen again. I would have thought I'd get more wheel spin offroad, than I got testing on wet bitumen.

Here's what it says about it in the manual:

21. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/
Malfunction Indicator Light —
..... If the “ESC Activation/Malfunction Indicator
Light” comes on continuously with the engine running, a
malfunction has been detected in the ESC system. If this
light remains on after several ignition cycles, and the
vehicle has been driven several miles (kilometers) at
speeds greater than 30 mph (48 km/h), see your authorized
dealer as soon as possible to have the problem
diagnosed and corrected.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I was more referring to Russell's post Benn0, but if you do manage to fault the system please try low range.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Yeah, his sounds a little different, I was actually driving in a wet paddock at one point while the error light was on, but didn't think to try dropping into L4.

The ABS malfunction definitely turned off 4WD, but I did get a message saying "4WD is not available". So if you didn't get the message, maybe it OK. In my case it was perfectly repeatable - light on, not available message, no low range or mud/snow/sand etc.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Ok, yeah, I didn't get any message about 4wd, so should be ok. It seems the ABS is pretty core to running the 4WD system, as we saw with the old 4WD Serv issue. It would be good to know where this sensor is, and how easy it is to clean it.... especially since things get dirty when you are 4wding....
