iPhone 4, and has worked from the start for messaging. Whether the car detects and connects to my iPhone is an altogether different lesson in random theory.

Jeep is in hospital - awaiting jeep austrlia to approve a high pressure fuel pump replacement ( or some such)

What type of handset do you have, and what firmware version is it running? I'm going to guess it's an iPhone...

Cheers,

The Uconnect site lists what are compatible features per phone. Check that out, choose any US carrier except Sprint.

Ahhhh... OK, should work fine. Have you had a look in the Bluetooth settings, advanced, and selected message access?

Thanks. Now, it's getting better whereby a dialogue box pops up on Uconnect scree showing 3 options: view, listen, ignore. I have to manually select listen. Is there anyway, a message be read automatically?

Not to my knowledge. Personally, I wouldn't want my girlfriend hearing the smutty text messages from the filthy strays I keep on the side.
:sly:
Actually I'm not even sure that U-Connect could pronounce that stuff...

When you are in motion and you get the alert that a text has been received, you can press the phone icon on the steering wheel and say 'read message xx' (1 being the latest received).

Is that what you mean by manually select? Or are you pressing the 'listen' on the touch-screen?

There's options on the touch screen SJnL... but we know you make the voice recognition sing. ;-)

Yeah I know there are options on the touch-screen Steve but when he says 'manually select' that indicates to me that he is not aware he can use the phone button on the wheel to also have the text read out.

But I could be wrong and he knows about the functionality on the wheel. I dunno.

Manually select by pressing listen on the screen. I try your way, it WORKS. Thanks. Now, what's the VR command to close Read Message Dialogue Box on the screen which blocks map view? I close it by pressing little red cross button, a distraction when driving.

Press the VR button on the wheel again (not the phone one) and just say MAP.

Editing to add - To go back to your messages (a list of them), press the Phone button on the wheel and say INBOX.
