An infernal squeaking noise coming from somewhere in the front passenger area - sometimes around the A-Pillar area, sometimes it appears to come from dash on the passengers side but mostly around that A-pillar area but really difficult to pinpoint. Exacerbated by uneven roads and general crap surfaces (normal around here) but strangely, completely disappears when it pours with rain.

I did a JG search and found this thread:

Horrible squeaking

Thank goodness for JG and the description of styrofoam being rubbed together completely explains the noise.

So, popped the bonnet today and found 'potentially' that it could be the rain-runoff pipe from the windscreen found on the very right of the engine compartment (as you are facing towards the front of the vehicle). It seems to have slipped out and down from where it should be connected to.

Pics -

It appears that the run-off pipe has popped from its position - (just under the red bolt is the hole and the connecter which is attached to the runoff pipe has slipped out and down)

Second pic - (position not so obvious here due to size of pic)

It is too tight and not enough lee-way IYKWIM to reconnect it back to what appears to be the correct placement for the connection so its off to the dealership for us.

Spoke to them today and explained it as far as I could. No need to book it in they said, just bring it in when you happen to be passing and we'll look at it straightaway. Thank you Narallen.

Will try and find some time this week hopefully but maybe next week will have to do.

Also, comparing the other side (the driver's side that is), the drain-pipe is tight and attached, which makes us think even more that this is the issue. Am really hoping that this is the cause because I'm not happy about the the possibility of taking that A-pillar apart.

Fingers crossed.

U can temporarily tape it, and if the noisy disappears, then it's the culprit.

What about the 'disarm motion sensors' feature with the fob? We have a dog and apparently if you press the fob lock button, then press it 3 times again, the car locks but disables the internal motion sensor alarm.

I've tried it but how do I test it's working without giving the dog a heart attack? I've tried waving an arm in the door but nothing.

Also, is the alarm just the horn sounding?

I never leave the dog in the car for long, so I just lock it with the car running, so he stays nice and cool with the air con going. In a small town where everyone knows everyone, no one is stupid enough to steal a copper's car, but I wouldn't do it in the city.

And yes, the alarm is just the horn and hazard lights.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

OK, so there doesn't seem to be interior motion sensors. Can anyone confirm?
Car locked. Kids inside waving frantically. Nothing, no alarm.
Now I want to test the alarm. How?

Stay inside the car and lock it using FOB. Then have a belly dance which will most definitely trigger the alarm.

Yes, had it applied yesterday and it certainly does make a difference. Gear shifts are noticeably smoother and the the downchanges when braking to a stop are not so jerky.

Had the new camera fitted too. It is much clearer and now actually usable at night.

While we're on the topic of TSBs, has anyone had the rear suspension modification fitted? The dealers over here are still unable to source the parts.

After over a year, the car is slowly developing into what it should have been when new.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

My 2014 petrol is beginning to give rough downshifts when coming to a stop, and yesterday when I selected reverse it made a disconcerting clunk. I take it that the TSB being discussed above only applies to the diesel's tranny, so are any petrol owners out there with this transmission behavior? Also a week or so ago it decided 2nd was the highest gear after takeoff, and left me bouncing off the limiter before I realised. Engaged the paddle shift to change up, then returned control to the car and it's been OK since. Bit of a worry though.. Hopefully there is an update for my auto at some stage...

Cheers, Simon
