I went with the Bridgestone A/T D697s (not the Desert Dueler Bob that you said stay away from) and had them fitted this morning.

Tried to get a few extra '000s kms out of the Kumho's but at 35,000 odd, the front left was pretty well bald.

Whilst, I can't notice any extra cabin noise from my short runs this morning, the ride is a little firmer which I expected but don't mind at all.

Thanks to you both again.

I'm looking at the same transition from Kumho to Bridgestone 697. I'd be interested in your ride especially on the highway.

Since the 10,000km service (now has 15,000km) the fuel economy has been rising. Earlier in the year I towed the van (1750kg) from Melbourne up to Jindabyne through the Snowys and across to Merimbula and back to melb. 2,200km's at 12.1 l/100. Totally happy and acceptable with that considering the hills and sitting on 100kph on the highways. Consistent with other trips towing the van.

Since the 10,000km service noticed the consumption going up around town whereas I was getting 7's l/100 am now getting 11's and 12's l/100.

Just got back from a 4,500km trip towing the van and the consumption has gone up to 14.5 -15.5 l/100 with easier conditions.
Driving style is the same.

Fuel range has dropped from the original 1200km's per tank down to 800km's per tank with no van on.

This week noticed high idle and hit the go pedal to clear it maybe.
Noticed that the rev counter could only go to 2500RPM's. Tried it several times and same thing.
Did it in Park with brake on. Did it in Neutral with park brake and foot brake off.
2,500 RPM's the max.
Rang up a Jeep dealer and spoke to workshop about it. Muganic said "No worries mate, itsa diesel and they only rev to 2500 anyways. Thats where you get all your power at."

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Quoted the specs to him then. Sure max TORQUE is at 2,000revs (570nm) but the POWER is 184kw at 4,000revs!!!!

So how do I access all this you beaut power if I can only wring 2500 RPMs out of it Mr Muganic???

Will probably have it on the computer in the workshop next week to see whats wrong.

Strangely enough the take off and power through the gears are Ok under heavy pedal but the gears change at 2100revs any way in Sports mode and Economy.

Had no probs pulling the van except for the heavy fuel concumption.

Any thoughts??

Bluey
Have you tried driving it in manual mode using paddles to change gears? If it still won't rev past 2500rpm, then something must be restricing the air in or exhaust out. Maybe a DPF? Could also be something wrong with the ECU.

Is it still smooth in its power delivery?

Husband was very happy with them on the freeways Butts. No perceptible increase in cabin noise (that may be something to do with the volume of the stereo though ) and the ride and handling were excellent he said. Took it off onto some dirt tracks somewhere up there yesterday as well (nothing outrageous) but very happy in that regard too.

Ok, this is a protection mode & will only allow 2500RPM in park or neutral to stop excessive turbo speed & possible engine damage etc, If you have it in Drive & floor it it will rev to 4500RPM. as for fuel consumption going up have you added anything? different tyres, bullbar, side steps, light bar, etc? these all have an effect on economy.

Above Laredo it is standard, and cant be ordered without. I keep pop tarts in ours.

Had been wondering what to do with the CD player. Very strange setup having it in the armrest. CD cases do not fit in the gap space either.

Join the club....useless POS, especially when you can just use the USB port and have thousands of songs at your fingertips.
Like a couple of others on this forum I'd really like to rip it out and replace the consol for the extra storage space. That would be just about my only gripe is the lack of cubby holes to put stuff, can't fit stuff all in the glovebox. (but at least I don't carry as much junk now).

Agree, nowhere to put anything. Stopped using CDs years ago. You have to wonder who makes these decisions. Their IQ wouldn't be much above their body temperature.

Have to admit, having a CD player has put a hold on filling the space with stuff that I really don't need. That said, like everyone else here I could do with a tad more space and a second USB port that is readily accessible. As for the glove box, WTF is with that? All I've got in there is the owners manual and service book and still have difficulty getting the thing shut. How useless is that?

And whilst I'm whinging, don't get me started on that poxy foot park brake!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Is there an 'easy' way to remove the CD player & create a bigger storage bin? I've already run gaffer tape across the slot as I fear something will end up dropping into the slot & bugger the whole thing.
It's almost like designers created the interior then an exec turned up and said 'hang on, where's the CD player?' as an after thought. It's a poorly designed that's for sure.

I think I've seen somewhere on this site where owners have pulled it out. Trick is to get the full size tub to replace it with. Am sure Snuke will have the appropriate thread archived!

At great guide by Nikon
My guide to replace CD player center bin with large bin

Pulled mine out the other week, it really is a pretty easy thing to do specially having the step by step guide
Worst part was I was quoted $409.10 for the new bin locally paid $86 + shipping from the states
