Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I my experience Jeep are no worse than VW for service. The HQ do not give a toss and the Dealers are trying to survive. I'm not sure how that can be changed though.

I'm in my first Jeep (Grand Cherokee - diesel) in Australia and it's great. I do a couple of trips a week into Melbourne CBD and northern suburbs. I find the Jeep easier to drive, park and manoeuvre than the EOS and Commodore. Mind you I don't know what it would be like without the rear camera and front parking sensor.

The point about height for lifting child in and out is really worth checking. It can be a long way up and down.

As for fuel mileage the diesel Grand Cherokee has similar results to VW EOS (2.0L) TDi and completely embarrasses the Comodore. In my last 1000 kms in city driving I'm obtaining 10.3/100kms. I find that rather amazing.

I get to drive on both sealed and unsealed roads almost daily. Have also tried so light off-roading. The Jeep handles it all although dust seems to penetrate a little deeper than I expected, especially on the rear tail gate and it is tricky to clean. But if you're not going near dusty environments (lower north shore) it is not an issue.

I'm really enjoying the jeep's sound system too. Rich. And the uConnect system (Overland) is responsive. No lag like VW or Holden. Although some of the options (voice command navigation) do not work in Australian unit. I have tried it - it does not work - and asked Dealer - who advised they are working with an Australian company to get it going at some point in the future.

Pretty impressed with the boot space and the power of the GC.
I'm still doing research on which SUV to get for my newborn.
Come across this forum and read couple of complaints about the waiting time of parts and how bad is Jeep Australia after sale service. Couple of other members reported faults within weeks after picking up their new GC.
I would really like to know if these are just lemon or normal Jeep experience?
As I'll most likely keep my next car for about 5 years, reliability is very important factor for me to decide which SUV to get.

Thanks

I have been complaining about voice address input not working since I got the car. Finally the dealer told me it was an Australian requirement that it be disabled - which I don't believe. Does anyone know of a current model of any other make which has voice entry enabled? Has to be current, as they claim it is a recent change.
Thanks, russell

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Does anyone know the part number(s) for the Jeep scuff trim (circled in red) fitted to Limited and Overland GCs?

Otherwise if anyone has fitted illuminated Jeep scuff trims and wants to sell their silver trims let me know.

Cheers

I found this report from last month with regards to the Ford system. A new thing for them also so perhaps, and hopefully, Chrysler's Uconnect system will follow suit with a new version that enables VR for Nav in our part of the world.

Fordís advanced in-car connectivity system SYNC2 to debut on 2014 Falcon and Territory

So from this, one could speculate that the reason our jeep navigation VR doesn't work is that it isn't tuned for Australian accents and maybe Venturaprise's dealer is working with someone to fix that
Thanks,
Russell

I don't think anyone has one-shot-destination Nav control at the moment. If I just look at what my friends have purchased in the last 6 months (ie: new 2014/2015 vehicles) from a variety of manufacturers, none of the new vehicles purchased have this functionality.

Not the Audi Q7, nor the 2015 Pathfinder, not the Mercedes C-class, or the Rangie Sport or the LR Disco. Not the Mazda 3 and same story with the Santa Fe. None of them have VR Sat Nav command.

The Ford article is the closest that I've found when searching for the availability of the feature on Australian vehicles.

Of course, CJD AU did spout about it being available on the Red Vapour SRT in Paris - I quote:

Quote:
'the new Red Vapour special series is fitted out with the 8.4" Uconnectô touchscreen display complete with integrated 3D navigation, advanced voice recognition with one-shot-destination-entry, Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free system.'
but typically followed it with 'Although this special edition wonít be making it to the Australian market,

It's not just a Chrysler thing. It appears to be the whole raft of the manufacturers.

I just don't understand what the constraints are with providing this feature within the Australian market but clearly there are some.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Thanks for your research SJ&L. Maybe now Ford has led the way, others might follow. Maybe not retrofittable though. If it is an accent thing, you'd think the Americans and the Brits would have as much variation as we have.

7-14 according to the label on the driver's door. That's an idea. I'll suggest to them tomorrow that the DPF should be replaced.
