Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

So how many underbody protection plates do I need to buy before going off road?
Fuel tank, transfer case, sump... What ones? I nearly went and bought the Mopar skid plate pack from the US but this doesnt have all of them, correct?

Well I'd be wanting atleast the Mopar front diff protection plate and the Chief Sump protection plate. The original carpet cover tends to get ripped off quite easily. Here's mine, with the transmission protection plate that Chief are about to start selling.

Depends how far you intend on going.

Might wait and see how much the Chief plate is before pulling the trigger. Jeep Os Park just quoted me $990 +$300 fitting for the Mopar set. Bit more than I expected based on boxhead's price.

Cheers, Simon

Chief only do the sump plate and the transmission plate. The front diff plate, transfer case plate and fuel tank plates are all done by mopar.

Well that is interesting, I was playing with my number plate before this happened, and it was happening again today, so I slid the number plate to the right a little and now it seems the sensor is happy. Can they really be that sensitive? Must be a wide spread on it.

Picked my Mopar set up from SBR in Wangara $880 and fitted them myself.

Was pretty straight forward and although an extra pair of hands would have been handy, I did managed without too much drama to put them on by myself.

I see you are in Perth Simon, so I would be happy to give you a hand if needed

I am waiting for Chief to release the plate for the Transmission (Bloody silly that the Mopar set doesnt cover this area) and will probably get the Uneek front plate fitted with the Bullbar

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

To the Perth fellas, do any of you know where would be the best price to fit a Hayman Reese tow bar or a Mopar tow bar?

I'm tending towards the Hayman Reese at the moment as it seems a more 'snug' fit.

Cheers,

Jason

Looking at this myself Jason.
I heard that the Hayman Reese does not allow the fitting of the long range fuel tank?
So although I dont see any need for the long range tank at the moment, I will probably stick with the Mopar

Most prices so far have been around $1000 fitted

Just had my number plates fitted and the dealership was saying that they are having a few problems with that at the moment...

Hi Mark,

You're correct that it doesn't allow for a Long Range Fuel Tank, it also removes the rear recovery hook. Although from what I've seen, the install on a HR looks a lot neater with the way it tucks in.

The cheapest I've seen so far for a HR tow bar is from Auto Extra in Osborne Park, 3.5T rated for $795 fitted.

Cheers,

Jason

That price sounds pretty good

Wonder if they have actually fitted any and are familiar with the canbus system on the Jeeps?

So do you keep the recovery point with the Mopar bar?

I got to admit I haven't actually seen any fitted so dont know if they differ in looks once fitted?
Would have thought that the majority would be up behind the bumper?
