The on-board average only varies by 0.1L/100km as my driving style and conditions are very consistent. Surprised to see that the on board readings are so far off the mark.

Did the test on mine some time ago, over 3 tank full's I have found the computer to be accurate and it has remained that way, I haven't done a reset for a while and it's showing 7.7 L/ 100 km
With a mixture of driving, engine is still somewhat new at 25,000 km.

Pretty good for a useless trinket hey I guess some of us have been very spoilt in the past to think that way.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

It was the suggestion that I'm spoilt... as if relevant even if I was.

A pity you still don't understand the issue, but I'll spell it out again. I don't see the need a gauge showing "average fuel consumption" for the times I know my average fuel consumption. It is between 8 and 9 from tank to tank. What would be useful is to be able to determine a "new" average when conditions change, such as towing several tonne into a headwind at 100. This might be almost 20L/100... I still don't know. You can reset all you like, but the system will still use old consumption history in calculating the average. The data is therefore useless in determining how far can be travelled on the tank. Planning fuel stops reverts to guesstimation.

On our BMW, if you reset the fuel consumption it will immediately show instantaneous... then commence averaging from that point.

Trinket versus useful tool.

Ciao

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Barboots, if you bring the economy screen up and reset it, it will give you a running average. Last time I used it, it didn't effect the averages on the 2 tripmeters. So I had 3 average consumption readouts

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Interesting Jarse... I'll give that a try. I'd really like to be able to read usage over particular legs of a trip. I recently almost ran out of fuel when my towing consumption went through the roof due to massive headwind. With better data, I wouldn't have passed the last servo!

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Dist to empty should always be on the money though as its governed by fuel tank levels. Also a neat gadget is a Bluetooth or wifi ob2 reader for a few dollars has all the same info only more customizable

"I tried throwing them way but the garbage man said that the city wasn't allowed to dispose of charred primates. I told him that I had a wet one. He couldn't take that one either. I didn't bother asking about the frozen ones.
I finally arrived at a solution. I gave them out as Christmas gifts. My friends didn't know quite what to say. They pretended that they like them but I could tell they were lying. Ingrates. So I punched them in the genitals

Did you punch the primates or the friends in the genitals????

Those amazing diesel fuel statistics are brilliant, well done guys

I'd still go with the HEMI or the Pentastar.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

That should work for you, Steve. The economy screen will show both instantaneous (the arc of a circle readout) and the average since you pressed the reset button (digital).

That's what I use when towing the Vista RV (~1600kg).
