Took a whole day before I got it back as they said they were behind on work. Next day I picked it up and they said there's no charge for first limp mode but any after that then there's a cost to me.

What??? If the vehicle is under warranty how on earth can they say there is a cost to you for any subsequent limp modes??? Ridiculous!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Limp modes induced by a full DPF can be the result of the owner, however, there are enough cases of this that Jeep Aus would be hard pressed to be able to qualify that and not honour a warranty.

Wait.... what? In neutral, then select paddles?

Only a witech tool can trigger a manual regen, you don't need to maintain higher revs for a regen to work, just be moving (ie. not idling). Pulling over and revving in neutral won't do it.

There is a software fix for this issue:
http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_1801914a.pdf

It has also been suggested that the oil level being too high can be a reason for the regen not working normally, but that seems to be somewhat of a rumour now.

And then other owners have found that they have a dead sensor or damaged dpf that prevent regeneration occurring.

As Snuke said, check out the very long thread on dpf issues.....

oh, and the dealer sounds like he is on crack!!

^^ must be on crack if he's telling me that compared to simple update. Plus swapping out my rear assist cam when it was working fine seems just as nuts too. What the hells going on with that mob?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Well the service centre at the dealership confirmed that if the filter full message shows on the EVIC and to do highest legal speeds on highway and it's not possible, then before it hits limp mode pull it over safely somewhere and stick in neutral and keep revs at 2500rpm until message clears. If it hits limp mode then it's back to the dealership for regen.

He also added that my VIN doesn't require any updates so that bulletin is specific to mine and to just do the above.

Looks like I'll have to take it elsewhere if that's wrong.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Oh lord..... you have a 3l export diesel, and you have had the MIL DPF full error, so it does apply to your car. I'd try someone else....

The problem remains that if you are doing highway driving the the dpf should be regenerating before it gets to the point of being totally full. If it isn't operating properly then, it isn't going to on the side of the road in N revving the guts out of it. And I'm pretty certain it won't regen while stationary anyway. The heat off the bottom of the car is huge, which is why they want the car in motion during a regen.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Anyone suggesting a boot full of neutral for an indefinite period doesn't quite have the type of mechanical sympathy I consider professional.

Run... do not walk...

Cheers,
Steve

But wait, neutral and select gears all at one, must be a magician, so I am running to them if in trouble.
