Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi guys.

Question regarding my new MY15 GC Limited Petrol 3.6.

Drives like a dream EXCEPT for every now and then, only when driving down a steep hill on normal suburban roads it shifts down gears for no reason.

Example, cruising along at 60kmph in 7th gear, drive down a hill where a car would normally speed up due to momentum, she will shift down to 3rd gear with the obvious low gear/high revs sound...only way to shift up is to manually shift with the paddles until the bottom of the hill (otherwise she would stay in 3rd the whole hill).

Took it in for the free 3,000km service and mentioned it to the guy who said that they loaded up new software but it hasn’t fixed it.

Anyone else experience this?

cheers

The car is doing its best to prevent you from receiving a ticket due to downhill speed increase. Not that our law enforcement agencies would endorse speed cameras at the bottom of hills where minor inadvertent speed limit violations are commonplace?

Leaving your foot on the accelerator a slight amount seems to decrease the amount of downshift.

Cheers,
Steve

The service guy isn't up to date with their products... unfortunately this applies almost across the board at Jeep dealerships.

Cheers,
Steve

Yep, mine does it too, foot off the accelerator downhill and the tranny will shift down to limit speed increase. Although it seems to do it sometimes and not others....

edit: It is amazing how little some service guys seem to know about their own products.....

What Steve says is correct. I get it on every steep hill and, as Steve says, a touch on the accelerator will make it shift up. But hey, I'm quite happy with it, good for brake life.

Jeep use the incline sensors to assist with reducing the speed when the throttle position is off. It detects that you want to hold back.

The gearing is further reduced if decent brake pedal pressure is applied.
