Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Veronica Johns and Karla Leach no longer work for Chrysler Australia. The new CEO is Patrick Dougherty who took over on Dec 1 2014.

The replacement for Karla Leach is Lucy McLellan.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

dealer told me last year that the scan report requested by Chrysler already sent to them in Oct and feedback was no fix in the horizon. Called Jeep 1300 today, was told that they still await the report and I should go back to the dealer. Welcome Chrysler's "soccer game"......

It was interesting to compare them to my GC Limited. In my humble opinion the jeep wins hands down, power on both vehicles was noticeably down and I think the fit and finish on the Jeep is better too. Ride comfort was slightly rougher but still acceptable. As to price both are in the 48 k range and this is with similar features to the Jeep Limited, leather, GPS, Reversing Camera etc.
Overall not bad vehicles but the Jeep is definitely worth the extra cost.
I did enjoy driving our GC into the dealers yards and have them enquiring as to how we liked our Jeep, told em great 10 out of 10.

That's interesting, I've just been in a whirlpool forum discussion about the Isuzu MUX, they argued that while the power is down, it results in longer engine life (B10 rating to 500,000kms). My argument was that nothing else int he car would last that long anyway, so I'd rather have a car I prefer to drive (aka the GC). But I guess if you don't mind less power the MUX sounds like a good option.

In Thailand where all the dual cab utes are made, the D-max is the best seller and has a cult following and a 1/2 million km club. (disclaimer: This is according to the Isuzu sales guy trying to sell me one.)

When i see a totally flat torque curve (like in the D-max/MUX) i think Hmmm...torque is electronically limited ... so allows the manufacturer to use cheaper and less robust components in the drivetrain.

MU-X would be OK if you were already deaf and were somewhat used to driving leaf sprung utes.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I've been having a blast driving the GC over the school holidays, any excuse I can think of to get in it and take it somewhere. I really hope it doesn't have any issues, because so far its been great!

Steve1307, I found the SUV version on the MX-U fairly comfortable as it is coil sprung all round.
The cabin was quiet and comfortable and with the extra seats in the back it would be a good family car.
Although the engine has been around for a while, it certainly was very smooth and not noisy, but as I said earlier it could do with a little more power. Unlike the GC there is metal underbody protection on all models, at around $48 k for the top of the line leather trimmed model with reversing camera and GPS, it's not bad value for money.
It was an interesting comparison to the GC, but I found that when I got back into my GC it was sooo much better and felt more refined, there is something special about the GC Jeep.
I must admit I have become a big Jeep fan.

I tried so many cars i forgot which was which. The MU-X is good value yes I agree, i might have gone to LS-U model instead of the full fruit salad model, but really I found every one of the 4cyl diesels "grating" on my senses. (I was coming from 25yrs of petrol I4's, V8, flat4, flat4 turbo, flat6 & V6).

The JGC felt the most like i was sitting in a new Landcruiser200, for half the money. (OK its not the same but, hey).

The one I was probably most disappointed in was the Mitsu Challenger. The Triton was bad but the Challenger wasn't better at all. (cheap though).
That and what you pay for a Prado and what you get (or dont get) in it.

Super happy with the Jeep as long as it behaves itself.

When I was having issues with my GC a few years ago I also fired off a letter to Mike Manley who is the head of Jeep in the States - found an email address on the USA corporate site. Made JA jump I can tell you! Google his contact or ring the states corporate office and ask to speak to his PA.

Nothing to lose except a few hours sleep for a late night phone call.
