Dropping from 8th to 6th and the engine revving up to 4000rpm and the speed still falling to near 50k's as you described is not normal there is a lot of "slip" between the engine and the driveshafts. [/url]

Sorry, let me clarify about rpm at 4 and 50kph. RPM at 4 only when i hit gas pedal hard trying to push speed up to 80kph on Mt Ousley. Given it struggled to reach that speed and I was afraid the push might cause damage, so i eased gas pedal and dropped speed to 50kph, and rpm dropped as well.

As you and others have mentioned, climbing up exerts little effort even with caravan on the back at 80kph. This is how mine behaved before the TCM flash. For sure the TCM flash has upset something, and the dealer can't figure it out.

Next time if anyone see a JGC on truck lane on Mt Ousley, that will be me.

Yes, but 4000rpms in 7th you should be doing something like 200kph, not 80kph or 50kph.

Something has to be slipping for your revs to be that high in that gear, but your speed so low.

edit:
7th gear at 80kph= 1600rpm
4th gear at 80kph= 3000rpm

That's it. Gas pedal = rpm up but speed not up. Seems that power from engine not transfer to spinning wheel. Upset in torque conversion as Steve1407 suggested?

Yes, something definitely wrong there. Take it in to the service centre.

Just a suggestion, maybe have a friend take a video of the instruments (speed, engine revs, gear) whilst you are driving on the motorway or up a decent hill, say Mt Ousley or something similar so it might be easy for the service people to see the problem. It would be easier for you to explain it to them.

If a picture = 1000 words so i guess a Video = 1 million words.

Have to agree.
14 months old and 59500 kms, bar winch and off road 18" wheels fitted.
Still not a hiccup.
I have taken it for 2 trips to the sand dunes at Beachport, and 1 trip off road at Tallarook, and damn I was surprised how well it followed the lifted and locked GU Patrol(my serious offroader driven by my son)
Now that the warranty is nearly up, I need to figure out how to put the 6.2 litre challenger engine into it. Some people never grow up.
I also get the usual smartarses with the "you bought a Jeep" line, but now it's usually followed by "can I have a drive?"
I love my Jeep.

Was Beachport with MJOC Murray?? How was it. It looks pretty good by all accounts.

Service Centre you mentioned I presume is dealer? Or Jeep has a special service centre?

Yes the dealer's service centre, i guess the one that did the update for you in the first place.

As far as i know, Jeep Australia itself doesn't have a service centre you can drive into, only a customer disservice phone number, I don't even know what it is (1300-something-something-something).
Warranty service is usually run at the dealer for most makes of vehicle sold here i think.

Happy for someone to correct me if I'm wrong on this point.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I had a Trans flash update on my 2013 GC, I haven't noticed any difference, but I am finding the up shifting from 1st to 2nd is not very smooth, rest of the gears are not too bad, I originally thought that the intro of the new 8 speed that the gear changes would be silky smooth.
Question, has any one else noticed this rough upshifting?
Otherwise very happy with my GC.

This is a well discussed issue in other parts of the forum, there have been a number of attempts at fixing it. The latest is dated 24 Jan 2015.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - 2011-2016 Grand Cherokee Service Bulletins and Recalls

Those latest ones seem to only apply to petrol engines, I'm hoping they also release them for diesels.

I also notice they include a change to the eco mode button so it remembers the previous setting.

The program for the 8HP70 w/ diesel engine I assume would be quite different to the petrol 5.7 or 6.4.
The Pentastar 3.6 is a different gearbox 8HP45, similar controls?

I hadnt thought of the 1-2 shift as rough at all , but I like the idea of the ECO button remembering my preference.
