Thanks. I don't think there is a bigger Jeep unless the "Wagoneer" turns up.

I think 5 seats will do me. Pretty sure there's only going to be 2 kids (with a big gap in between)

All good, except we have to save a few $,$$$ now the plans have been turned upside down. Scale back on the holidays a bit.

Cancelled the 10year anniversary, luxury Island resort holiday, which would have been this weekend.

Looks like the only travel for me will be work related

On the side steps, maybe some slim tubular ones might do the trick.
I saw some awful ones last year on a GC that looked hyrofoils sticking out the side that would slice pedestrians' at the shins.

Might be difficult to get just the one, as chooke finding out and probably looks silly with anyway.

Put some money aside for a vasectomy, it will save you heaps in the long run.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Bear in mind that slim ones, while looking sharp, will tend to provide an inadequate step width. The only way around this is if they are mounted lower so your foot can get under more of the sill, but then the ground clearance is compromised. Choose your poison...

Cheers,
Steve

I saw this post re "Check you Air Filter" and did mine today. I was surprised to see the orange "silicon" seal was torn on two sides.

As i've i've only done 9500klm I'm curious if anyone else has this issue.

Here's the link & pic's

Check your air filter

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I would avoid putting a K&N style filter in as a replacement for the OEM. They aren't affectionately known as "rock catchers" for nothing.
Stick with a good quality paper element (obviously not from that batch of OEM units).

Hi Jarse, thanks for the info: can you please elaborate on you quote "rock catchers"

My dealer replaced mine today with no issues, infact one out of the plastic bag was ripped down one side so they appear to have an issue.

Amazon have an other one that appears to be "oiled" but looks similar in build to the K&N : Amazon.com: aFe Power 73-10253 Magnum FLOW OER Pro-GUARD 7 Air Filter for Jeep Grand Cherokee: Automotive

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Haven't posted for a while but always checking site for info, MY 14 GC had 20k service 2 weeks ago, complained about shock noise in rear, dealer said both shocks leaking???? Will order parts (shocks), back in today for fitting but on paperwork shocks not mentioned but brackets which I think I have seen posted about previously on the site, driving home GC feels like a completely different vehicle in the rear end feeling more stable and solid, not to mention quiet, has this been others experience???

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Mine is clunky in the rear too and getting louder. Not sure if I'll be able to wait to next service to get it sorted.

Any slight bumps on the road produce noticable clunks/thuds from the rear.

There is a TSB for this which affects MY14 models i believe.

2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi 67HR (that was my first car ) but I digress.

I've used K&N filters on a couple of bikes and one car, and in hindsight, I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. The problem with them is they let a bit of really fine dust through (hence the name rockcatcher). I did all my own work on those vehicles and serviced the filters in accordance with K&N's instructions. No matter what I did, there was always a very fine coating of dust downstream of the filter in the inlet tract/s.

At first I thought perhaps it was a poor fit, so put a light coating of rubber grease on the contact surface between the filter and the intake. No difference......
On the one car I had one on, I swapped back to the OEM paper filter and the dust stopped.

The only conclusion I could come to is the filter passing dust particles that would otherwise be captured by the paper filter.

There are numerous technical reports around that debunk K&N's claims (basically reporting what I observed with my non-technical experience). Further to that, there is also a risk to vehicles so fitted of MAF sensor contamination with any oil which may be passed from the filter.

The only benefit I think I experienced is the induction noise sounded great .

In the absence of good quality control with OEM paper elements, I'll be looking for an equivalent (or better) aftermarket paper item. I'm just not prepared to risk it again

Jarse, thanks for the detail. As you stated if they are sounding better one would assume more air is passing through the element. Less filter material which relates to your observation of dust passing through.
I think these type of filter are ok for the race track, where a little particle "by pass" doesn't matter due to the frequent rebuilds race engines receive.

As you say further searching required as the OEM ones are flawed.

I just had a look and had the same thing. Lots of dust on the clean side of the tear, not good! I've just clicked over 10000kms.
