I had a Holden Crewman petrol V6 for 11yrs. Shouldn't complain as it was a company car so I wasn't paying the bills.

but....

Back seats like church pews with no legroom and a "non weathertight" tonneau cover rear tray.

While a ute is handy for bikes etc, it was a bit painful picking the inlaws up from the airport or trying to carry anything if it was raining.

54L fuel tank and 19.0L/100km when towing a small van meant pretty poor range.

I had an RS Turbo AWD Subaru Liberty before that. Now that was a good car for weekend trips down to the snow.

The hassle of getting to and from any service centre and then having to do that again for updates, I would and have happily (maybe) paid extra to just have it all done at once. Or in the case of my dealer, do the service and ignore the updates and recalls.

I'm like Snuke, trying to find a good mechanic close to home, and then still have to deal with a dealer for all the updates. Meh! Provided I'm not getting seriously gouged, I'll pay that little bit extra to get the convenience of a courtesy car and all the updates. I'm also lucky that the car is being novated so I'm getting the fleet price on servicing which is quite a saving.

I'll keep an eye on what they are charging me in parts and investigate the BYO option.

I've also come from a patrol and am missing the cavernous rear. That being said, I can get the mountain bike in without taking a wheel off with plenty to spare. It was tight in the patrol because of the seat configuration. I just can't stack two bikes in the Jeep like the patrol.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I came from a 100 sahara landcruiser, and yes, the boot in the Jeep is small. Put a fridge in there and there isn't much room left, the height of the floor is a big part of the problem. But the uneek roof rack fixes all that.

I really miss my fridge under the arm rest.....

Well to be completely fair we should compare the rear space of the JGC with other vehicles in the same class - in their 5 seat guise.

Jeep Grand Cherokee - 782 Litres

Range Rover sport - 784 L
Porsche Cayenne turbo - 670 L
Audi Q7 V8 - 770L
Mercedes AMG ML 63 - 690 L
Volkswagen Toerag V8 Tdi - a puny 580 L

The Volvo and the BMW are smaller still and also not up to the same standard especially when considering off road performance.

Hard to argue against that.

I miss having any space under the armrest (chilled or otherwise) i didn't want the useless single CD player.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I came from a 150 Prado and yes the Jeep boot instantly looks smaller and the back door more sloping, however on both occasions travelling in the jeep somehow we have managed to squeeze all the same gear in the back same as the Prado and still see out the back window. So deceptive maybe. For us it works.

Is it worth about $150 and 20 minutes in the garage, to get a bigger bin?

Disco 4 becomes the only one with a decent amount of space at 1192 Litres!
