would you consider looking at one of these Snuke?

Ford Australia

I was contemplating holding off buying my GC for one of these.

Not sure on the level of comfort and I have been spoilt now, even if it is only the Laredo.

2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The Ford Everest is what I am hanging out for, due to be released in July. A few months time and I'll have a hard decision to make. I've got no idea what I'm going to do.....

If you look at the new Mondeo and other recent Fords, I suspect the Everest will be loaded with tech.

Or maybe a Calais V8 Sportwagon ....

Or a BMW 328i....

Or wait for the new Alfa Guilia....

Or a Disco....

I looked at the pajero, but given its now pushing 15 years of age and the update is 2-3 years away, I settled on the GC. Will be interested to see what the new pajero will be like, you never know it may be more toorak tractor than 4WD. May also have the same sort of electronic issues plaguing the GC given it will probably be fully wired. Seems to be the way with the modern cars.

It's sad the GC ticks most of the boxes and to be down on power and 100nm of engine torque with most of the coming attractions would be a difficult decision. It's electronics lack of consistent operation is the GC major fault and that's a big concern that Jeep appear unwilling to rectify. Why so many updates and changes if it was right in the first place? "She will be right" Customer does the development for us.
I personally embrace the technology that Jeep have tried ON with the 14 series GC and try to be tolerant with the service guys trying to fix these vehicles but they have all failed miserably!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Well, I'm going against the grain here and will stand by the GC.

I refuse to be swayed by anything other than our own experience with the Jeep brand over the years from the vehicles themselves to the servicing of them. That is what counts for us.

The Grand for us, continues to deliver an excellent driving experience from day to day running around, to longer extended driving around the state (which is why it is due for its 50,000 km service) just shy of its two year delivery to us.

Whilst I acknowledge some owners have issues, I could counter that with our own horror stories about our ownership of the Mazda and the Holden Berlina (with the Berlina, we went into battle with Holden).

Our experience with Jeep - both vehicles and servicing (in and out of warranty) means that when the 5th gen of GC is released here (2018?) we will be trading in the current WK2 for that release.

With regards to the purchase of other vehicles, (there will always be Jeeps in our driveway however, so adding rather than replacing) I am getting very interested in the Maserati Levante - unveiled at next years Detroit show (Jan). At least I should be familiar with its Uconnect system.

SJandL That is great to here. At least there maybe hope at the end of the tunnel. I had a 2007 WH before this and probably consider it one of the best cars I have owned, hence the purchase of the 14 WK2. The frustration is like the tranny, they sorted it out last year now it's stuffed again. With all this vehicles FUZZY logic when is it going to learn to behave?

Not until 2018 is the rumour I read, although the "Montero" prototype running in the USA says 2016 (not Pajero due to spanish speaking population).
It might be a plug in hybrid, and also s/c petrol but the rumored diesel is only a 2.5L 4cyl although maybe this might be referring to the Pajero "Sport" or what we call Challenger.
Shogun? Montero? Pajero? very confusing but not out for a while anyway.

I looked at possibly waiting for the Everest - March 2015 I was told in October but couldn't confirm. I figured it would be more $$ than the $54K Ranger so gave up.
Would expect the ride (rear susp) to be better than the Ranger PX. The Ranger PX has coil springs in the front so was heaps better than the previous one which i think had torsion beams.

The Canadian built Ford Edge (possibly 2018 ish?) might be a decent comfortable SUV but not for offroad.

Toyota Prado ?
It's well overdue for a refresh of the powertrain (and the styling). Ditto the Hilux.
The new Diesel is most likely to be ---- drumroll---- a 2.8L 4-pot (132kW ) and a 6 speed auto.

I'm wondering when all the new diesels will have to conform to EuroV emissions. Particle emission limits mean DPFs all round.

The 2016 Disco 5 concept car looks interesting. Probably the same diesel engine but looking much more stylish like a big version of the new Disco Sport.
Or maybe it'll forego the diesel all together for a Hybrid with torquey electric motors and a tiny petrol engine?

It's encouraging to read a positive post SJandL. It's human nature that people rant and rave when something goes wrong but never bother to go into print if everything is hunky dory, hence it seems in these threads that almost everyone is having a bad spin.

For my own part I've just done a short 1500km trip towing the van and the GC performed brilliantly. Avg fuel consumption just over 11L/100kms. Even drove in torrential rain

Only done 7600kms in 11 months but hasn't missed a beat so far. Only minor gripe is GPS that has little idea where you are sometimes but if you look at the scale of new roadworks both north and south of Sydney I'm not surprised.
Cheers
Ian

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

My car just turned 1 (well 1 year since delivery) and I've been very happy. No issues so far, except for the ESC going on the blink for a couple of days (fixed with a patch).

I like the sound of the everest, but it seems to be just yet another ute based SUV and the engine spec is going to be a step backwards from the Jeep. There really aren't that many options for a car that will take you around fraser, has good power/torque and is still a nice drive on the blacktop. Maybe the new Disco, but its going to be a whole lot more coin!
