Thanks for the support Barboots. It's not a crazy as some think for several reasons:
  1. The black trims are made of a stiffer plastic than the Overland. (Test it in a Showroom),
  2. The Overland's trims are made of a thinner plastic but in a smooth finish,
  3. I plan to go off-road and I know that mud and sticks etc will scratch the surface of the trim,
  4. And the real reason, I think the black contrasts well with the white.

I think as humans we're at times never happy. I know some large chested women who have had a reduction and other girls who've gone the other way.

The description i might have used is, when invited to a wedding, women tend to get the their hair especially done in the opposite to their natural style.

If they have Long straight hair - get it styled with curlers
Curly or wavy hair - professional straightening iron

either way it costs $200-300

I don't really have anything else to add.
I kind of just needed an excuse to use the smiley.

usually there isn't a dedicated one so you have to make do with the normal ASCII style

(.)(.) (o)(o) ( O )( O ) ( ' )( ' ) or my personal favorite ( . Y . )

I can attest to the validity of the 3rd point - the rear wheel arch trims on my Overland were significantly stone damaged on our Kimberley trip last year. Tanami Road, Gibb River Road, and similar took their toll. Mud flaps obviously didn't help. I think my BFG's are partly to blame.

I drove home a white Overland yesterday and the white trim was already covered with muck just driving it home from the dealer. Not something I noticed on my Limited.

You can now see that I'm not so crazy after all! I think I'll get the trims "Vinyl Wrapped" an then when I sell the car, I'll then remove the wrap in case I come across a prissy purchaser.

This IS a sophisticated forum..... with a dash of humour. Though most of us have never met each other, we talk here as mates and matesses (if there's such a word). Maybe you could do with a Snickers bar.

That sounds like a good solution.

In other news, the volume (etc) buttons on the back of the steering wheel are nicer on my 15 Overland than they were on my 14 Limited. The old ones were kind of cheap hard plastic. The new ones have a softer feel, and have an indent in them. Also the indicator stalk has a softer action now. I assume these are model year changes, I can't imagine it being economical to change those between trim levels.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Nah Fred, the indicator stalk changed mid-MY14, and the steering wheel controls seem to be a lucky dip based on my observations. My early MY14 had the nasty stalk and the nice buttons. My current later MY14 has the nicer stalk and the louder clicky buttons... though both had an indent.

Capt'n I don't think typical vinyl wrap is thick enough to stop the stone damage. The plastic is pretty soft and actually deforms with the stone impact.

Cheers,
Steve

That's interesting, thanks. I didn't think my older ones had an indent, but it seems more likely that I'm mis remembering than there actually being three different sets of buttons. I wish I could find my wreck just to look at the buttons now.
