I used this stuff a number of years ago on the leading and lower edges of a new Patrol when we were doing a biggie on lots of dirt roads.

It was on for about 4 months and parts of the material looked very tattered where it had been well exposed to stones. Some areas I had doubled and tripled up the thickness.

In general I reckon it did reduce the amount of chipping the vehicle received.

Wasn't super expensive and for a while it made me feel better. Plenty of places around you can get it. Easy to put on and peels off.

Last few vehicles I haven't bothered, although we aren't travelling really gnarly roads much anymore.

Thanks to all for input to help out with this, I think the two bolt option is best in the long term but will use the tape option for short term to get away next weekend.

Also just received a letter in the snail mail telling the mistress she can have a new upgraded reversing camera fitted to her GC Laredo at no cost (due to customer feedback).

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi All, whilst cleaning my new car and investigating how easy or difficult it would be to remove the front lower air dam, I came across some rusty staples on my inner painted flared guards. I did a search on jeepgarage http://www.jeepgarage.org/f107/staples-in-the-fender-flares-mystery-solved-78824.html?highlight=staples and found out that we all have them, i.e. those with painted flares - Overlands. Apparently some limited with plastic flares also have them. My car has several of these rusty staples and my car is less than a week old - well in my hands at least. Do you guys have them as well? I seem to have a few of these.

They are a bonus feature Cap'n. Hard to believe... but part of the process somewhere.

Carefully pull them out.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I found them! I'm going to ask for some touch up paint. I don't want the plastic guard to rust!

Pretty sloppy though, eh?!.........

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

They are part of the painting process. From Scott -

Quote:
straight from a lead engineer on the wk2

"The staples are used in the painting process to apply an electrostatic charge the part. There is no harm in removing them. The SRT Flares were designed with a couple tabs that hold the staples and is cut off after painting."
Scott's post is #88 from this dedicated staple thread:

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

hey guys had a strange issue today with the ecodiesel.

Jumped in and started it, tried to put it in reverse but the selector wouldnt move. tried several times, still no good, and a message kept popping up saying that the "transmission is already in the desired gear"

Turned if off and back on and it selected the gears correctly but the check engine light came on and stayed on.

Anyone had a similar issue?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Need some assistance please, some time back I read about a fix for the sometime heard 'diesel rattle', something to do with the injector timing?
Mine gets this noise from time to time, so as the GC is going in for the 30k service I thought I would ask them to look into this.
Also as a matter of interest I have just received the recall notice regarding the possible fault with the ORC module.

This is the latest version of the software update for the diesel rattle (and DPF alarm).

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_1804415.pdf

It is an "RRT" which means it should be done by default under warranty, if your service is aware that it exists !!

I had the earlier revision for the same in January and it quietened down significantly instantly after the flash.

The recall could be the "P67" with the fault in the seat belt tensioner / airbag. control unit.

I did once, and I put it down to putting it into reverse too soon after starting. It was probably 1-2 seconds after the motor turned over. The engine light stayed on for 3(?) engine start stop cycles.
