Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I've got nearly 12,000k on mine, when the good lady drives 90-100 (hates cruise) I get high mid to high 7's.
When it's my turn, 95% of the time I'm getting 8.1 @ 114 on gps, 112 on dash.
Around town it's about 9.8 average with Eco off.
My tyre pressure is 2.4 bar cold. Not sure if I should add some air. 30c days they get to 2.8 after a trip.

Is that what other diesel drivers are finding? I must say that it has been a mixture of "Driving Miss Daisy" around town with splashes of "Fast and Furious" on some isolated stretches of road. (It's a rocket!!)
Did I tell you that I love my Jeep?
For a tank, they are exceptional on fuel From my experience the fuel use should drop about 0.5-1L/100km once you are over the 10000km mark.

I am at ~16000kms atm and average ~7.0L/100km according to the on-board computer, which is a little generous.

I'll get anywhere from 1150-1200km per tank and squeeze about 86-87L of diesel each fill. No towing and 60% of the time I am on freeway/highway and rest is peak hour stop/start bumper to bumper traffic.

Pretty good in my books

I get 8.5 on the highway, ~12 doing 2 min trips to the shops and on the school runs. That's with the offroad tyres. Generally I get 750-850kms from a tank. Might get close to 900 this tank having done quite a few highway trips.

You must be loaded up with accessories. ( or all the paraphernalia that comes with having 3 (?) girls. )

At Xmas i drove up the New England Hwy to Bris-vegas when less than 1000km on the clock. This was the trip: 7.1L/100

Towing back down with 3 up and a loaded van with 3 kayaks and 3 bikes (1600kg) via Ipswich-Beaudesert-Rathdowney-Casino-Grafton- Pac Hwy we did 12.1L/100km. (My Holden Crewman left behind in Brissy would have been in the 19's)

With short trips <10km and in Sport mode I still get 10.8L/100k

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Yeah, I reckon the tyres cost me 1L/100k, and I tend to be a bit impatient and give it full right foot when weaving through the traffic.

Benno that is pretty much exactly what I get, running the same diameter tyre as you.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Are those consumption and range figures adjusted for the larger tyres? My 260/65's are about 4% larger than stock.
Thanks,
Russell

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Good point, my speedo calibration hasn't been changed with the bigger tyres, so I'm probably doing slightly more kms than others are for the same reading. My tyres are 815mm diameter.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

According to Barboot's figures in the "off road 18"s" thread, your tyres are about 5.4% larger than the standard tyres, your odometer reading wil be low by that amount, and hence your nominal fuel consumption should be that much lower than the computer says. If yours are the same rolling circumference as Benn0's, Hutch801, then the same goes for yours too.

Ah there's my problem, and I thought my mileage was due to my right foot (having to get past all those slow idiots in MY lane), when it was my tyres all along!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

There is no doubt the diesel has great fuel economy, but I feel the need to sing the praises of the petrol model also. At almost three years old our GC has just clicked over 40k so a diesel was never worth considering for that sort of K's, on average around town to and from work I get about 11l per 100k's highway travel will put it as low as 10l. On our recent trip to Fraser Island towing the camper trailer (1700kg) it averaged 14l per 100k's and on Fraser (sand) got as high as 17.5.
Like a lot of people on this forum I came from a Holden product that couldn't come close to those figures, so to say I have been more then happy with the GC would be an understatement (although if I was worried about fuel consumption I wouldn't have brought a vehicle that weighs close on 2t)

Cheers
