Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I brought this up sometime back. Wheel aligners dont know about sport mode on a quadralift

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

When i got the bigger tyres put on, the blokes at tyrepower seemed to have done a good job with the alignment but stated that they find these jeeps a pain to do with quadralift as they say they need the engine to be running to keep it in the selected alignment mode. Never tested it myself to see if once its in align mode and turned off it resets, but would have thought it would stay there - either way they get the job done.

I had mine done a few months ago and the Tyrepower guy did a really good job, he had to do some on-line research but the pulling to left was gone and the car felt entirely different. I did have to tell him about the wheel alignment mode and it didn't need the motor running. I have now done 43,000 on my lattitudes. An expensive month tyres and 40k service.

Has any anybody replaced their 18" tyres and what did you buy ?? I have been watching the tyre thread but haven't had much final info.
Cheers
Steve

I went for BFG KO 265/65r18
Pretty happy with them apart from the noise. That said, I drove a BT50 with KO's on the other day and they were far less noisy, so maybe they get quieter after a bit of wear..
The spare fits under the floor OK as long as you remove he plastic bins that sit next to it.

Cheers, Simon

Same tyres for me. Very happy with wear and traction. Mine are getting noisier with wear actually! They seem to throw up a lot of stones too. They rub a bit on the inner lining on full lock in entry/exit mode, but I have an ABR bar so that might have moved things around a bit. Put the same tyre on the steel spare.
Thanks,
Russell

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Very timely posts for me re tyres. I have bought 18" rims to replace the Blackhawk's 20", and have been looking at the BFG's 265 65 18. Wondered whether they would fit Ok given that the diameter will be slightly larger. I noticed others have also put them on the spare - I wasn't going to bother. Any problems using the original spare??

Definitely not recommended due to the different rolling circumference. Could cause drivetrain damage, and would almost certainly interfere with traction control.

People will have different opinions. Personally I don't think it is necessary, unless your doing a remote outback trip. I used the spare on a recent trip. No issues.

Bigskiddy, perhaps I misunderstood your original post, what size were your (other) tyres when you utilised the spare?

I don't think too many people would be too concerned about using the stock spare with the original tyres for example.

I probably misunderstood the original post. I was thinking more from a traction point of view. I didn't consider what Ivette states about affect on drivetrain with different diameter tyre, which seems a valid point.

Yeah there's always multiple ways to read things. The diameter issue is why I have two different spares.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I have been considering Yokohama's Go12 or the Mickey Thompson's STZ in the standard size and retaining the factory spare. I have used Yoko's on my last couple of cars (Subaru Outback & Captiva) and have pretty happy them. It might be the first time for the Mickey's.
I don't do any really remote travelling, mainly the central highlands in Tassie. When I do any sort of trip I carry a small compressor and plug kit, any flats get fixed on the spot, I haven't really staked a tyre badly, yet.
