Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I'm looking for help on coolant for my 2014 JGC diesel. I'm in Wilcannia, half way through the "Darling River Run", and noticed the coolant level is below "min". The only coolant I can get here, looks like the correct type, but, as with oil, the Chrysler standard ms-12106 is missing from the long list of standards. It is OAT type, which from the owners manual I'm pretty sure is correct (it's not 100% clear and threatens dire damage if transgressed).
I can't find a list of equivalent standards.
Does anyone know if any good quality OAT coolant will do? I have got Dexcool OAT ready to use.
An alternative would be just go add the small amount of water which would top it up, and may be safer.
Thanks,
Russe

Russell I thought the latest spec was HOAT, not OAT. My 2c suggestion is to leave it and monitor the temperature a little more closely, or top up with demineralised water.

From all reports getting the coolant wrong sounds like Fridays in hell...

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks Steve,
Doing a bit of searching showed HOAT was the one, until i came across this:

http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0700412a.pdf
Which states that they changed to OAT from the 2013 model year. Further confusing is the colour in the car doesn't match the colour examples they give for OAT.
So all in all, I think nothing, or as you say, water, is the best option until I get to a Jeep dealer somewhere.
Russell

Mate your on the edge of the outback. Actually we frequent that area all the time at a mates property on the whitecliffs back rd. My old man is there now. Just add water it wont hurt anything... correct me if im wrong but isnt it just the expansion tank..

Just add water. Never ever mix coolant as it turns to a sludgy mess. Only get the OEM Coolant or change and flush completely if changing brand. And then, it has to be the correct type.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Thanks Swampy,Nicjac.
Yes, it is just the expansion tank, and I don't plan to add anything unless it continues to drop. There is of course the question of why it has dropped, albeit only a little.
I am now in agreement with you all, and will add water if necessary.looks like I'll carry oem coolant on my next trip though.
Nicjac - we're doing a day trip to Whitecliffs today, and will probably go one way on the back road.
Thanks for all your help.
Russell

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Cruise Control
Limited CRD

Some advice please, when I set the cruse for say 100km it locks in instantly, I then have to slow down for say an 80 k zone, on pressing resume the Jeep takes off like a scalded cat, it drops one or 2 gears and accelerates back to the preset 100 km mark, my passengers think I'm a rev head, I don't remember this fierce acceleration happening before.
Any thoughts, not sure if it is a problem?

Mine has always done this. I have used the foot pedal to build up some speed before I press the resume button.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Great, thanks to everyone for the replies, I guess I have to live with it, Chrysler needs to look into a mod to fix this, it's not acceptable as it's uncomfortable and doesn't contribute towards fuel economy, my previous vehicles simply applied gentle acceleration just as you would if cruise wasn't engaged.
