Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I seem to recall reading somewhere in these threads that there was a fix for the weird pronunciations from the Satnav. I'm coming up for the next service so would appreciate if someone out there has the details.

cheers
Ian

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hello fellow Jeepers, it's been a while! Great to update myself on all the Jeep questions. Apologies if I am not posting correctly. I am not really replying to anything, just can't work it out!

My car is coming up to 3years old. Out of warranty next month. For what it's worth, I am very happy with the car. Any issues have been sorted fairly easily. Jeep Caroline Springs were great to buy from and have been wonderful to deal with. It is worth noting that Chris, the manager, has been there for quite a while. Stability of the service department is very important.

I am currently working in Broome I got the "80% full notice a couple of times since being here...drove for 17 mins each time and that sorted it. I'm due for a service though...do I drive to Darwin or Perth?! A round trip to get a service will be 4000km, which means I'll be heading towards another service! I could take it to a mechanic here...just don't know who to go with. Suggestions welcomed.

Had fun driving up toCape Leveque with friends in Prados. It cost them $100 in diesel, us $50. Love my Jeep! The air con faded to nothing on the way home - tried the old 'turn off then on again' routine and that fired it up again. Hope it isn't a problem. I do that road for work in a patrol...love the luxury of my car; it literally floats over all those bumps!

I saw comments about turning off the radio. Curious, I just push the volume button.

We finally upgraded to all terrain tyres. (After doing Cape York on road tyres, much to the horror of our tag along guide- who conceded after the trip that his initial fears of having a Jeep in the group were unfounded, and that indeed, the Jeep out performed other vehicles and he really was impressed!) . According to the car, fuel consumption has increased but when I consider range of the tank it doesn't seem much different.

I was prompted to revisit this page when I read an article about lemon laws and how we really do have them: ACCC to investigate new car retailing after flood of complaints | afr.com

Happy reading

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

There's a Jeep service agent in Broome. Minshulls I think. Went there a couple of years ago when I had a check engine light and a dirty wheel speed sensor on the GRR. They did fine by me, and they are hooked into Jeep Australia's computer system, so that may be an advantage, especially if it's your last service before warranty expires.
Thanks,
Russell

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hmmm. That's curious because Jeep know nothing about their affiliation. (Just re read your reply: not necessarily an affiliation, just access to the computer system which is what I need. Good to know you were happy with them)

When I got the burn notification I wasn't in a position to drive the car so contacted them to see if they could help. I expected it to be covered under warranty but asked what it would cost if it wasn't. $165. I mentioned this to Jeep service dept. and they said it takes 20 mins of running the engine on the hoist, not covered under warranty and they don't charge for it because there is really nothing to charge for...( disclaimer: technical terms and information come with very limited knowledge or understanding on my part!)

So I will get a quote for a 40,000km service from them and advise.

Thanks

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

It was nearly two years ago, so anything could have changed. But I was referred to them by Jeep when I called them with the problem. The Minshulls guy spent time talking me through the problem to see if I should keep driving. Expensive sat phone call!
Thanks,
Russell

Mate, I envy you being in Broome, was there in late October for two weeks and did the mail run with the "Peninsular Postie" right up to Cygnet Bay (for breakfast) and back via Cape Leveque, beagle bay etc. Sitting in the front I was wishing for my Laredo

Got a feed of crab too from crab creek.

glad the GC proved it's worth for you.

As for servicing, I'd say there would be more choices in Perth, but if you fancy a trip to Darwin then you'd just need to check out the offerings. Anyone who services Landrover should be able to look after you.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Thanks Snuke. I had seen that complaint before but not all the follow up responses. I'm up for a 50,000km service (not 40)....I don't know that I can risk it after that though. Jeep told me that if I take it to a mechanic they won't have access to the computer. Is this necessary to complete a 50k service or is it just for the updates and recalls?

I loved this statement in the link to the article I posted and would love to know if anyone has experienced this redress:

The ACCC has investigated a string of car makers recently, including Fiat Chrysler, Volkswagen and Kia. The Kia and Fiat Chrysler Australia probes ended last year.
Fiat Chrysler agreed to a consumer redress program and to an internal review of its handling of complaints, while Kia agreed to amend its terms and conditions of its capped price servicing offer. The VW investigation is ongoing.
