Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

.....and to add salt into my wounds. Knowing my car was to be delivered last August I actually went out and imported a "Summit" grille and Ambient lighting from the US at a cost in excess of $1000.00. These accessories are useless now because of a new grille and if we get the Summit it apparently comes with ambient lighting under the seats.
Is there anyone out there interested in buying a Summit Grille and/or Ambient Lighting for your MY11,12 or 13 Grand Cherokee?

Milous would not have any information to ascertain the purpose, or the eventual owner of MY14 cars scheduled to be built, or even already built, which are destined for Australia. The way the system works is that all cars destined for Australia are recorded as having Jeep Aust as the owner, the only thing that changes is the disembarkment port. Dealers, or Customer's are not shown on the build sheet when it comes to Aust. I would wager every car being built now for Australia, will be going to HQ, to be used by press, staff, and experimentation etc. They may even be using them for build testing in our vast outback, or even beach driving to see if they have fixed the issues. I hope they have handheld GPS, as they would get lost if using the OEM ones.
In all fairness, Jeep Australia has not made any public announcement regarding the MY14, and all your knowledge of that model has come through the Forums. Had you not been reading here, you would have no idea that there is a new model in the pipeline, and as far as you are concerned, you would probably be quite happy with the models currently on display in the showrooms had you not visited the forums.
Also, you may find that these new models will need to be seen, and checked for Australian compliance, then they will decide on the packages which will be offered in Australia. Just because a model is available in the USA, does not mean the same model, and it's configeration, will be available here. Even with the MY13, there are significant differences between a US Overland, and an Australian Overland.
About the best you can do now, is approach a dealer, let them know you are itching to part with cash, and you want to order a car as soon as possible, which will be when they get notified what is available, what the cost is, and when you can expect delivery.
That date, which I am guessing, will not be before July, going by past trends.
In regard to the car being released at the Melbourne Motor Show, don't count on it. I have not seen Chrysler/Jeep at that show for years.
Allypally, I must respect your seniority on this forum but must disagree with you:
Refer your comment:-

It happenned to me many years ago. Purchased a new car only to see a new model shortly afterwards. Highly unethical. Buyer beware is rubbish. You admit that without this forum no one would know about the MY14. I am in sales, I have my own business. When we know something is changing we inform our customers and allow them to make a valued judgement.

Your remark:-
Also, you may find that these new models will need to be seen, and checked for Australian compliance, then they will decide on the packages which will be offered in Australia.....sorry Allypally, I must be a very sceptical person. Julia will not like me. Are you telling me the big wigs inside Chrysler Australia have not been to America, not looked into all the options etc.....oh, we will wait "till one arrives and make up our mind when we've seen it! Sorry mate, I just don't share your faith.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Studgun,
Firstly, the Summit Grille is beautiful. At the time you could not get it in Australia. You may be able to now through some dealers. I bought it so my car would stand out from all others. Now, I have been ferreting around the office trying to find the invoice without success. I will have reference somewhere but may need to check bank statements etc.
However, go online to Justforjeeps.com and you will find both items there. I don't think the price has changed much if at all. Currently listed as Grille: $334.80 and Ambient Lighting $278.10. Check out Mopar Australia price for the Grille inserts (not Summit) and ambient lighting to see the difference....it was a lot back last June. Freight and Insurance took the price up to around $1000.00 at the time. You can import directly from JustforJeeps. They use a company called Bongo. It worked easily but I was surprised how the "extra's" built on the price. I will sell as soon as my purchase for an MY14 is confirmed but I can't even find out if that will be an Overland or a Summit yet.
Price is negotiable when the time comes but would initially ask for above prices (roughly) and write off freight, taxes/duty and insurance. However, your location also makes it difficult.
Do your homework on JustforJeeps and come back to me. Ambient Lighting changes through several colours.

Studgun, forgot to add. All brand new, never used, still in packaging. Have thought of mounting the Summit Grille on the wall at home just to look at. The chrome is blinding.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Webber. You have good points. I am neither wise, or senior in this forum. I based my comments on my experience with Jeep over the past 2 years and seen what they have done when introducing new models.
Similar to yourself, I had my order screwed up by the dealer, and had to wait through 2 builds. It really should have been 3 builds, as they also screwed up the 2nd one. Not wanting to wait a year to get a car, I settled for the 2nd one, but got a few concessions. looks like you got caught up in the end of model runs, where all scheduled builds were allocated, so new orders would be accepted. Now you are stuck in the position of having the new model opened for orders and those orders placed with the factory.
I truly hope you are right, but maybe I am more sceptical than you. For example, look at the current SRT's. They started to arrive in Oz last March, but were not released to the public until about Sept. One of the issues which held them back was the wheel arches, which did not comply with Oz standards. They had to fabricate a bolt-on, which held up all cars. This obviously was not sussed out at the factory, but here after they tried to register one. I think you will find that the new model will have to be supplied to all states for compliance before introduced for sale, as there are many new elements in the builds.
Above all, I wish you guys could get reliable info from the dealers, get your orders placed, and building commenced tomorrow. But I know that life is simply not as easy as that.
I guess what I have been trying to say, is that waiting for a Jeep will certainly test your patience, and reading all the speculation that goes on in here, will sometimes want you to pull your hair out.

Thanks Allypally. Some wise words. I haven't noticed your posts until now and yet you have posted many. I am glad I "flushed" you out and back into the discussion. I feel sorry for Milous, it's hard to let go when we are driving around in our daughters little "butter box" waiting for concrete news. It would be nice just to end all the speculation on whether we are getting an Overland or an Overland AND a Summit. At least then I would know what I was getting and could try and distract myself in other areas as well as Jeep Garage to help the time pass. It is the unknown that is the problem. But I must admit, I have enjoyed reading all the posts from other Jeep enthusiasts. It helps when you hear that you are not the only one being stuffed around. There seems to be a lot of nice guys out there. I wonder what type of cars the bad guys drive. Couldn't be Jeeps!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Just had a call from my dealer (Sydney), Jeep Aust. advised that the '14 will not be released until all '13's are sold. She expects that will not before June. I then asked how many '13 they had in stock, she said she didn't know and would have to consult her manager.... Sounds like it was just a call to tell me they still had my deposit and would sell me a car when it suited Jeep Aust.
