Talking with the dealer yesterday he was mentioning in November they went to Melb and went through the new spare parts warhouse
Someone found the key then?

I also was told from a Jeep dealer that they are looking at a warehouse for spare parts in Australia
Chrysler opened a new warehouse in Melb a year or so ago. Your Jeep dealer seems to be a bit out of the loop....

With the numbers of cars they are selling it would make sense that they would start stocking locally..... but who knows.
Even with the new warehouse, parts supply is as bad as ever. And over priced.

Yeah I kinda thought after maybe you meant that. Sorry old mate!

I think expectations get the better of us sometimes. Some Overland owners might feel that the "upgrade" system should be better... and I've read the same from some Summit owners. Many of both are entirely choofed... it's a good thing we're all different. ;)

To be fair, with certain source material the Overland system can sound pretty good. Push the volume or choose music that doesn't have much "space" in it and things get nasty. Anything with rolling bass gets messy. Listening to my back catalogue is providing some suitable tunes... and mellow newer stuff seems to mesh better with the sound system's tune.

It's great that you're happy with what you hear though. Maybe all us winging about it should get on to your playlist!

Cheers,
Steve

That will be why it sounds so good.....it's all 60's, 70's & 80's. I love it because you can actually hear and understand the lyrics and sing along.

My youngest pukes at it (and he is 29). For fun he has loaded a couple of his songs on for me to play at the lights to shock anyone pulling up beside us. It's unbearable stuff but he cannot listen to our music. Head phones go on with connections to his own music. It's sad really. :D

Radio reception with regards to WSFM (and I think Snuke has already mentioned this) is not good on '14 Overland. It definitely has something to do with (I presume) the aerial because '07 WK does not suffer from this issue.

Smooth 95 FM is fine. There is a particular spot that does lose it all but that is not anything to do with the MY14. It does the same with '07 WK and also the daughter's VW Golf and Mazda in the same spot.

I have noticed in the last two weeks that on WSFM that I now have 'Last song played', 'Current song' and 'Next song' on the Uconnect screen. It just started happening about two weeks ago - obviously something new being transmitted by the radio station because I haven't updated anything on the Jeep side of things.

Also with regards to Webber's and Barboot's posts - Elvis sounds really good in the cabin as does Van Morrison and the Eagles. :D

And Webber, nothing wrong with speakers on the television. We have a Sony 65" 4K Ultra HD 3D screen and lo and behold, the speakers are on the side of the telly. Fabulous thing (or maybe we both suffer from 'cloth ears')

#9,951 ·
I've noticed the last song this song etc being displayed in my MY12 too - just started to do it last week. Very odd. And never used the CD / DVD other than the day I picked it up and was playing. All my music is one my iPhone.

#9,952 ·
I have no issue with my age Webber and I'm probably only 10 years or so behind you. ;)

Child (age 10) pairs his iPad to the Jeep from the back seat with no issues and we have Bruno coming through the sound system. It's sounds great.

He has been 'trained' from an early age to appreciate the 'classics' although we did have a problem early on in his years when he kept saying 'Play the Turkeys Mumma' - He meant 'The Eagles' but he was only about 5 then.

You obviously haven't trained your boys Webber. You've got to start early. :D

I use the CD player perhaps 50% of the time. The other 50% is spent between the SD card and the radio. The reason I use the CD player so often is because I haven't found the time, nor the inclination to put the CDs onto the SD card.

The VR works well going between each media source coupled with perfectly executed commands like play Genre, Artist etc.

There is one issue with the CD player whereby the VR recognises and executes 'play number 5' (for example) rather than 'play track 5' even though Jeep Girl confirms with 'Playing Track 5'. If you give the command 'play track 5' she spits the dummy. She wants the word 'number' rather than 'track'. A minor VR CD issue.

GMWK2 - I think it is perhaps an enhancement coming from the Radio station. It is obviously recent because I've only noticed it in the last two weeks or so.

Daughters are into our music but they are 37 and 40 but yes, your are right, I failed with my son. That's the one test I have not done, ie. using VR to change between Radio, CD and Music/media via my iphone. Thanks, I will give that a try next.

Geez, I hope my luck holds out. Look at poor Barry Smith's problems. Unbelievable. I hope one day I can discard the old tree stump on the back seat.

Hi all,
Sad to say I have encountered a serious motor problem in my 14 Limited diesel (12,000 km) First symptom was noisy injectors as the motor warmed up. It sounded like a 20 year old diesel, VERY clattery. However, once warm, everything normal (About 10km)
I reported same to dealer.
2 weeks ago, we were heading to the coast, for a seachange, with our 20 foot, (about 2.5 ton ) van on, and I noticed the temperatures of both motor oil and motor water coming up. Ambient 26 degrees. I pulled up at Moonbi, (just before the Moonbi Range) to check the van brakes we not dragging or any other sign of a problem. Everything seemed just fine.
As I had run this range before with this car and van, I decided to push on, keep the revs up a bit and taking it easy.
About 30 meters from the top, we entered limp mode, I snuck to the top and pulled over.We came out of limp mode as I pulled over. Radiator had boiled but was now coming down in temp. However , oil temp was still going up !!! As it was a nice downhill run for a few km, I decided to push on. Water temp came right down, but oil temp continued to rise !!
We pulled into Bendemeer, oil temp was now show 148 degrees, stopped motor to let is cool right down (2 hours), then slowly topped up the watrer, motor on idle. The top plastic water tank was like a small volcano, and did not settle down, seemed like a blown head gasket. NO noises from motor.
Vehicle tilt trayed to Tamworth dealer, caravan recovered next day.
Dealer removed heads, no problem here !!! Suggestion made it might be the EGR (exhaust gas recirculator). Specialist testing revealed it was indeed the problem, pressure testing revealed a good leak.
Vehicle still at dealers whilst Jeep Aust make up their minds what to do. I have a loan Camry (Wahoo).
I will keep you posted as this story progresses.
PS Spent a lot of time on the internet boning up on EGR...these little suckers can be really troublesome, especially in some makes. I have been on the Jeep forums for the past 2 years (this is my second WK2), I have never read of a problem similar to this.

These engines have become incredibly complex, this is mainly due to having to conform to the Californian emission standards. Have a read on the Web about the ERG used in diesels and you will find a scary link to the DPF that others here are having problems with.
It's nice to have a modern new car... But it comes at a price and I don't mean $$.
I sincerely hope your problems are fixed easily and soon.

Sorry to hear about the EGR problems Barry, do you have any feedback on the team at Tamworth, woodleys I assume?

After an unsatisfactory service on Monday at frizelles tweed who I purchased from, which I will elaborate on in the servicing thread when I get a chance, I'm considering a move to woodleys as it is considerably closer to me.

I would really appreciate your views on how they have handled such a serious and complex problem like your vehicle. I hope it all is rectified quickly and easily for you.

Cheers
Chris.

All car sound systems sound crap. You can only make them less crap. So the very best are really just the least crap. It is a horrible area to produce sound, too many large areas of glass in a small space.
The no name system in my base model Falcon sounds better. I think that is simply because it isn't trying to do anything special. Alpine should not have put their name on this mess in the Jerp.

No worries Barry, hopefully for your sake it's all resolved fairly quickly.

Is woodleys your local dealer?

I'm from Inverell so I guess it would be my local as well would be a toss up between woodleys and Toowoomba. I have a bit of experience with the Inlaws VW touareg being maintained by the VW department at woodleys since new "04.

I can't see myself owning this car too much longer.

The DPF issue came up again tonight. Ironically shortly after picking the car up from the dealer to have some other warranty issues sorted (which still haven't been sorted).

Anyway, this time the warning of the filter nearing full did not put it straight into limp mode - so far so good. Fortunately I was close to the freeway so off I ago travelling between 100 t0 120 kph. Driving for about half an hour the warning was still there. I then exited the freeway to go back the opposite way. As I was coming to a stand still at the traffic lights to turn back on the freeway there was a "thunk" in the drivetrain, the "service throttle" light came on and then into limp mode.

So that was it, I couldn't drive at freeway speeds anymore and once again I am stuck over a weekend without a car. Would I trust taking this pos off-road? Well, I'm not that adventurous.

Unbelievable. There is too much trouble on this site. I do hope it is not representative of what is happenning in the non Jeepgarage world. If this site was representative it would mean that about one third of all Grand Cherokees out their are giving their owners grief. This is giving a poor impression to non member viewers reading our site with a view to buying a Grand Cherokee. I cannot accept that, with all the JGC MY14's out there that about 1/3 of them are continually going back to dealers for "fix-ups". The work load would be unbearable and the cost to Chrysler Australia destroying the bottom line. Reality must be that this car is basically trouble free. Chooke, you may not trust taking this car offroad. Well with all the reports I am reading here it almost makes one nervous merely driving out of the garage waiting for something to happen. I for one (and SJandL) have had such good runs so far. When does luck run out. I can't afford any more splinters continually touching wood each time I drive.
My experience has been so good so far it is very disappointing reading of the grief this vehicle has caused to others.

For the benefit of prospective buyers monitoring this site is their anyone else out there, other than SJandL and myself that describes this car as FABULOUS?

While our 2014 CRD hasn't been trouble free over the 20 months and 52,000k it is a pleasure to drive and tows our van brilliantly. We've clocked up over 30,000k towing in all sorts of conditions and over all sorts of road and track surfaces.
At this stage our plan is to purchase another JGC before warranty runs out in a bit over 12 months time.

Our CRD also has EGR and DPF and in all the k's of travel not once have I been aware of a DPF regeneration.
Never a warning message (does the 2012 have one?), or indication by temperature or performance - and surely it would be noticed if I was hitched to the van at the time.
One thing I am VERY particular on (and researched thoroughly before delivery), is to use only strictly Chrysler MS11106 approved oil.
Apart from the other oil specs Chrysler require, the MS11106 relates to the ash residue left after oil is burned on a steel plate.
Initially here in Australia I could find only 2 oils that quoted this approval - Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W30 and Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W30. Shell changed their base formula in 2012 and they no longer produce an oil that carries the MS11106.
We definitely know from posts on various forums that many dealers supply a "one size fits all" engine oil and I have not ever seen a post that a dealer has used a MS11106 oil.
I supply my own Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W30 to the dealer at each service.

Could it be that the use of an oil that does leave more residue when burnt contributes to the DPF problem?

I was informed by JA that I could use any brand of oil that met the basic specification and is low ash. My dealer is using Castrol Edge Professional OEX 5W30 and when you look at the spec its a low ash oil made to meet the requirements of a diesel fitted with a DPF.
So this is the oil in my engine at present and as used before (in my 11 yr old Nissan Patrol) I use a Diesel additive in the fuel, which claims above other things to improve combustion.
So far all is well, the engine starts and runs smoothly no DPF problems or other warnings. (biggest complaint is the crappy sound system... ha ha)

But as I said in a previous post there is a lot of technology in this engine so reliability may not be as good, but again who really knows? maybe it will last for hundreds of thousands of Km's. Only time will tell.

PS: Big thank you Snuke for that informative video from The Lube Page re the DPF and ERG. Makes you wonder if our Aussie mechanics are 'up to speed' on these things.

Like others here I was planning on replacing my MY12 this year before warranty runs out, but with all the issues with the limp mode etc and the fact that JA and dealers are still hopeless, I'm holding off.

My jeep is great dispite the problems I had initially. It tows my boat, is smooth on the freeway, economical, looks great and let's my family get down on the beach and to the bush. The perfect combination really.

But...

The reliability is always in the back of my mind and frankly JA do not deserve my repeat business yet.

And there are other things coming on the market that might get my attention like the Ford Everest. I think the old territory was generally regarded as a great handling SUV and combined with the ranger base it may well be quite a bit of gear. It is a global car so I suspect there will be no expense spared on its development. I know this is a jeep website but I'm not a welded on jeep fanatic so I'm happy to swap brands if there is something better.

So I'm holding off and JA can put me down at the moment as a lost sale, we will see what happens over the next 12 months....

And I actually started the process to replace my car. I contacted 3 dealers with phone calls and follow up emails. One of the dealers was recommended to me by Shona and she arranged an introduction. None of them bothered to provide me with the simple information I requested on specs for the MY14. So I gave up.

OIL FILTERS

I am currently researching and getting quotes on some Genuine Mopar Oil filters for our GC Diesels.
Pricing so far is between $42 to $52 USD, plus freight.
The part number is 68229402AA , but a US Dealer said this has superseded to 68109834AA, so some further research is required.

I can get free shipping to my USA address and than pay for shipping from there, so this also needs to be worked out.
If any of you are interested in a 'buy', then please PM me and I can get back to you with a final quote after negotiations are completed.

PS: My Dealer has informed me that they will fit a filter supplied my me as long as it is a genuine Mopar.

Freight is a killer. Any material saving compared to locally sourced after taking freight into account?

Had complimentary service done this morning. The dealer fixed ACC issue, now when press and HOLD set button, the speed increment/decrement in 10km rather than EVIC displayed ACC and FCW require service before.

Still need to drop in CRD at another time and leave with dealer for 4 days to fix wheel alignment, noise when engine/gear breaking, and a few Uconnect related problems (Uconnect does not 'connect', bummer!), was told that they will call JA about Uconnect problems, may need module replacement.

Was told that owners need to pay for sat nav map update, NOT for free. Is it a standard practice? I was told by sales rep that it's free as long as the car is serviced at the dealer.

Tnx

Ahh I see, I suppose my mood may have played some part in the service advisor not saying anything when I presented the voucher last Monday. Would be interesting to see how hard they would argue when presented with the voucher, but really service day can be frustrating enough without having to argue about a voucher that should be accepted.

Makes my decision harder as to wether I try out a few more dealers for servicing, I think I will start to supply oil though or start feeling out some local mechanics and just import all the service parts. Hmmmm.

Bit of an update...

Fortunately, John Hughes as a limited service operation on Saturday mornings so I dropped my car off there an hour ago for a forced regen.

Webber et al, I hear what you are saying that perhaps the majority of Jeep GC do not have problems but the risks are there. The reason I say this, and whether we are in a minority or not, they are the same issues we all have - DPF, reversing cameras (on the Laredo) and to a lesser extent, rear shock absorbers. To know about the DPF issue, even if I never experienced it, would mess with my mind if I took the Jeep in the outback.

When I took my car in this morning, I said to the receptionist that it is in limp mode and without a moment of hesitation she responded "DPF?". The service manager filled out a form specifically for the DPF issue with questions like what brand of diesel you use and the type of commuting you do. He said this form is for Jeep Australia who are working on a fix for this issue as

1. the average motorist should never see a DPF warning and be required to do the highway driving; or
2. if the warning does come up, it should be providing ample warning, and opportunity to do something about it, rather than immediately or shortly thereafter throwing it into limp mode.

In hindsight, when I received the DPF warning and as this time it did not go straight into limp mode, the question is why did it not commence regeneration after half and hour of highway driving as requested by the warning? Something is definitely not right.

This is encouraging!

I wouldn't expect this issue to occur on long trips, haven't heard anyone doing a long trip report it, has always been around town....
