Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

They generally use Port Kembla as the NSW port. However, for some reason, the Oberon berthed in Newcastle. If there were Jeeps offloaded in Newcastle, they would have been trucked to Minto.
From what Milous has indicated, only GC's offloaded were in Brisbane and Melbourne.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Reading the Melbourne Herald Sun Cars Guide I sent off a letter to the Big Three Car Editors, Paul, Paul & Joshua.
I mentioned the lack of MY14 Jeep grand Cherokee news coming out of Chrysler Jeep Fiat.
Put a challenge to them to find out what was going on. Put Veronica Johns in the frame.

Got a reply from one of the Pauls to the effect that yes I was right. No they hadnt reported anything on the MY14 JGC and hadnt investigated the new rig.

He intimated that a road test of the MY13 JGC will be in next weeks Melbourne Herald Sun and he said that the text mentions the imminence of the 8 speed auto only.

He also said that the three editors have a close contact with Veronica Johns and that we can expect an update soon.

What that means Im not sure but hopefully they can read between the lines of the Chrysler/Fiat/Jeep BS and not be swayed by the free feeds.

Why road test a car that:

A. Is in extremely limited numbers
B. Is being replaced by a new model in a number of weeks
C. Is last years model

? ?

Im confused why jeep wouldn't want to have the kind of hype experienced at the launch in the states?

CAUTION:
If Jeep Aust have not officially released the MY14, your car will be buried away in some yard until they do.

Not sure if this has been discussed yet... Is the bull bar requirements for the MY14 different to the older models? And are they available?

I think you are right. I can't see anyone getting their MY14 until Jeep Australia have their Christmas in July moment and unwrap their present. Behold, we have a new model. What a surprise.

I took a punt in April that I wouldn't see my vehicle hit the docks until late June. Release date set for the middle of the year and hopefully step straight into my new Jeep. Not sure if my timing was right, it will be up to customs to clear and hopefully, July I'll be out and about. I'm looking forward to all of the picture people post and won't it be great to advise our dealers that we've known about this release for some time.

I have a feeling that will release it before the financial year sales as it will boost their numbers.

These are overheads associated with particular markets, not a US build.
Then you have the added sting of those costs being distributed across a comparatively tiny market.
SNUKE, you make a valid point. Another thing though is that we all need to realise that around 34% of the world's population drive on the left hand side of the road, including the UK and many Commonwealth countries, including Australia, India and South Africa leaving about 66% who drive on the right hand side of the road.

Jeep realises a need to enter into the RHD market and therefore modifies their vehicles to comply with 100% of world's population. This is a business decision of Jeep USA I'm sure. GMH Australia made a similar decision when they decided to export the SS Commodore as a LHD vehicle to the USA and sold as a Chevrolet muscle car. Drive - Holden Commodore Unveils Export Model

There would have been $$$ spent on re-tooling for left hand drive. And the end cost result?? IT WAS SOLD FOR LESS THAN WHAT THE SAME CAR IS SOLD IN AUSTRALIA!! The Aussie market is paying for the retro-fit. As regards why we pay more in Australia, it's because they can charge for more - no other reason. When we try to calculate the cost of the vehicle in USA then add transport, GST etc, we forget that we are using the Jeep USA RRP of the car when we should be using the wholesale price which is unknown (I'm sure that CJD Oz is not a not-for-profit organisation..)

Conclusion? Well, we just got to suck up boys and while we have a car manufacturing industry in Australia, we'll always be paying more for our cars - full stop. If we stop local manufacturing then we'll lose thousand of OZ jobs as well countless support businesses which will close down.

I'm crying now. Where's my beer??

Red = LHD Blue = RHD
Right- and left-hand traffic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Correct 66% drive on the right side of the road (which is the wrong side)
