Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The diesel was selling for the same price as the V8 for the MY13's.
The attraction of the diesel for many is
Lower fuel consumption
Less parts to maintain
Longer engine longetivity
Better pulling power over equivalent engine size for petrol

Cool Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I ordered my 2014 Grand Cherokee back at the start of April. The recent information I have received is they should know in 2 weeks when delivery is due they said July/August when I ordered it so you think they will be advertising release of the new model soon.

When looking at payback for the diesel, you really have to look at the overall cost of ownership for items that will differ between petrol and diesel.

Ie

1) Purchase price - addition cost for diesel x interest if financing or missed bank interest if paying cash

2) Fuel cost savings for diesel

3) Additional servicing costs for diesel

4) Increased resale for diesel

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

If the diesel is selling for the same price as the 5.7 petrol then I can certainly see the attraction. With no price premium to amortise the diesel makes a lot of sense from the daily cost of running it.

Hmm - if they stuff around with the SRT prices I may change my mind to a Overland CRD.

Thanks for the info guys

Now you must be a person of considerable youth. I have posted here twice in the past, "why would a guy in his 60's need a launch button" If you look at the select control thing you will notice a few blanks on the buttons. At least with the CRD Overland you get a couple of those buttons printed "UP" / "Down" with a picture of a cute Jeep symbol stamped on them.

Don't know about the "considerable youth" bit. Young at heart maybe or as my wife says " bloody mid-life crises" Mid 50's and just feel like one more thumping V8 while I can afford the petrol and the nannies in government still allow us to drive powerful cars.

The wife aint happy thou - the SRT will out accelerate her VE SS ute ! We have an interesting driveway! Launch control will get used maybe twice or at a track day which I would quite enjoy. Otherwise its just nice driving a car that is fun.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

No cash has been forked out as I am also purchasing through a lease and have just extended my current lease vehicle until I take delivery of the SRT8.

The dealer that the lease is purchasing via has advised that delivery should be late July/August, but I spoke with a different dealer before ordering and they advised September/October.

Normally I am not that patient when it comes to new purchases and I would have gone for the 2013 model that I test drove but, I I feel that the 8 speed transmission will be worth the wait.

I just hope that we are not still talking about when I am geeting the vehicle still in September/October.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Ahh look.... a Happy Birthday email from JeepGarage. Warms my heart.

Pity Jeep AU couldn't deliver my Overland in time for the significant date - Now that would have been a great birthday present.

And to think that 10 years ago I said to husband, you can buy me a new RR Sport for my 50th. That would have been a reality except a while back, and after owning a WK now, I changed my mind to the MY14 Overland.

Just think, today I could have had a RR wrapped in a ribbon sitting in my driveway. ** sigh ** (but not deterred at all - I still want the GC over the RR).

Did your lease company mention that while your lease is extended the residual of the vehicle does not go down. You are effectively renting the car by paying penalty interest, really expensive; I know I am in the same boat so you a forking over your lease payment each week for the privilege of waiting. Ask Jeep or the dealer if they would like to offset that loss. will be the answer. Expect to see your vehicle in November December. The release it is now being said will be in two to three weeks. Lots of vehicles on back order and promises have been made the those orders will be filled first. With people like me who ordered in October 2012 ahead of you, plus the fleet and press vehicles if your order is placed on launch day, it may not get to America for 2 months and then they will start the build. That has been the experience of others on this form.

I am surprised no one has spotted that "one off" 2014 black Summit that arrived at Port Melbourne some time back.. It must be sneaking around the streets of Melb somewhere !
