Dont yell at me too loud, I have never owned a diesel. I am interested in why they are so popular.
Owning a diesel cant and shouldn't be justified by potential pay back periods. My first diesel purchace was several years ago, and was a vehicle we needed in our business. It was noisy, slow and smokey, but lasted many many years, all trouble free. 9 yrs ago, we needed a new van, & thought id try a diesel again. It was marketed as being extremely frugal. It was and, too my surprise was a completely different driving experience to the first diesel vehicle. It actually had impressive over taking ability on the freeway, great towing torque and smooth and quiet to drive. When my wife said she liked the JGC I said, lets try the diesel. We too a MY13 for a drive and she was hooked, I was so surprised at how much better this was than the 9 yr old van. To put the technical spec in perspective, my 90's V8 HSV had about 9kw more than the CRD and had a whole heap (100+Nm) less torque.
I guess whst im trying to say is, the CRD is being bought because its a great drive. Test drive one and experience it. Im almost giving up all my V8's for diesels.
