I think that you will find the launch date in the next few weeks, as the press needs to have a turn, write all their fluffy articles, create the hype for the saps that buy from press reports and then release the beast.
I bet many of you are in your cars before the EOFY
For sure, they'll hold until launch, but launch is the fuzzy day. They haven't announced a launch date, so pretty much they can do what they like. So if they chose, they could have adds ready for a "this Saturday", then use their existing add spots to go on any Saturday they please.

From a marketing perspective, my guess would be to do that when each dealer has at least a couple of demonstrators, and a couple of model variants that are demos only.

I sure wouldn't be bothered to give the press a test drive way before launch date , certainly not from a bunch of delivered vehicles . Ideally you'd want pre production fleet for press a couples of months ago- but these days we have the Internet , so the pre release to the press to allow for editing and publishing runs etc is a bit old hat.

So I'm over in the States for work and I had some spare time and decided to go by the local Jeep dealership and hunt down a '14 GC. So I walk into the dealership and the first car I see is a Compass, I'm underwhelmed by it like it is Julia G. but look to my right as I continue to walk and I spy what looks like a '14 GC. Well I'm walking fast and I take another look and it's a false alarm, my heart is racing, it is a '13 SRT with a black grille. I keep walking and as the cars part and I come into the open, there she is in all her glory, the sun glinting off her body, she looks hot and I swear she is looking at me begging me to come closer but I slow my walk, I want to get a better appreciation of her whole body and her sexy lines.

Like a guy who has been away from his girl for 6 months I can't wait any longer. I rush forward, but this time I don't trip over like some anxious adolescent. I get up close to her and I'm in love. Pictures don't do her justice. I have in my mind, "they changed the grille!" and it skews my thoughts on this baby. I mean the grille on the '11-'13 is just raw aggression, it looks so intimidating and stands out in the crowd, it is the attention seeker in the room.

I wrestled with this thought but it wasn't until many hours later that I realised what I had felt. The old grille was just that, it was the old look, it was bold and aggressive and the attention seeker in the room, but it was ultimately old. The new grille is the girl who doesn't shout "look at me, look at me!", but she is the girl that when the crowd parts and reveals her, you know instantly that she is the one you want with the beauty that you can't explain leaving you breathless with no thought of the attention seeker.

If you have an order in for a '14 GC then make no mistake, you will love it. If you have any doubt about the look of the '14 and were thinking of getting a '11-'13, don't do it because I believe you will regret it. What I saw today was a black Limited with beige interior, the black is beautiful. If you have ordered black you will love it, you really will. So much so that if the Billet that I ordered turns up and it isn't saying to me,"WOW", I'm going to reorder a black. I checked out where the tow hooks were covered, nice coverage with a mesh that fits in nicely which doesn't look out of place. The beige interior was a two tone(didn't know that could be ordered) with dark floor and beige elsewhere. It looked spectacular and would love to have beige but I know how quickly you can destroy beige so I will stick with a black interior.

To those who are getting itchy feet, stand strong. You are in love with the right vehicle. I have heard the rhetoric, "do you think the '14 will get confused with the Cherokee or the Compass?", well I have an answer for this one, you would have to be an absolute moron to do this as the '14 is just so different and beautiful. The '14 really has an SRT look about it without being the SRT. The black Limited blended well with the plastic mouldings, not sure how it will look on the light colours in the Limited. I can imagine the Overland with the body coloured moulding looking the full package which is part of why I went the Overland. The Overland will have an SRT feel about it without the mouldings.

The tailgate is also a non issue. I also loved the chrome brow across the tailgate but I believe the new tailgate feels as classy and fits the new design better than the old.

Finally to sum it up in old man terms, it is like choosing between Madonna and Sophia Loren, the attention seeker who doesn't know she is old or the classy one who turns heads wherever she goes.
Here it is for those who missed it

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

ok, I have just got home after a second look. Its an hours drive away.
The DRL driving lights are fabulous. Really bright. The black washer thing is fine. At least on the Crystal colour. It may not look as good on the Bright White. Only a small piece of the black washer part pops out. The rear is really nice even without the chrome strip.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

This had a black interior and I hate black so it was hard to see past the black. I think my light frost will be stunning. Stitching on steering wheel was black. Stitching on Dash was white. Gear stick felt funny at first but soon got used to it. Felt very smooth to me.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

This one had the CD player and it did halve the space but that was fine with me. Just enough room for 4 or 5 other CD's to be stored. All I would do is collect rubbish and coins in their anyway. The lower facia chrome was noticeable, I thought it may not when looking down at it. Very smart car. However, I wanted a Summit so if this Overland looks smart one can only speculate what the Summit may have looked like in the flesh.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Wheels were the large 5 spokes. They were not a bright aluminium colour. Like a slight bronzee hue through it but you had to look twice to notice it. The wheels certainly look smart on the Granite duco. I hope they will look good on bright white. Very smart.
The LED instrument panel only partly lit up because I did not have access to keys. It was very, very bright and clarity was excellent.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I don't know terminology but the console area around the gear shifter was a slight buffy, bronze colour. I think it looks better than silver.
Now, my dealer rang me and said he apparrently was not supposed to have received this car and it may well be withdrawn. He notified a lot of people that he had the car on the floor and now he had to ring them all to tell them it is not available to see. He notified customers in all innocence as the car was delivered by mistake. He did not know and thought he could display it. So the speculation about the launch date being put back could well be true. I do have lots and lots of pics but do not know whether I should release them because the dealer was trying to do the right thing and allowed the car to be viewed apparrently before he was permitted.
RELEASE DATE: Not known but the dealer does not believe it will be held back to the 4th July.

Agree, I'm hedging early July. Webber, the fact you were able to view the car then told perhaps this should not have taken place and also Leo mueller showing 4 July launch drinks, which i might add is not longer on their website is just another case of left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing........i still want my SRT though!!!!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The good ship Tampa was left BALTIMORE USA, loaded up with my GC. Using FleetMon I can plot its slow passage across the planet, and my wife is most amused As it is due to arrive in Melbourne 7th July, it might get shipped to my dealer within a few days, but not sure how long it normally takes to clear the dock.

Anyone have any info on this??

My local dealer rang me months ago and told me July also, he also said that it would be delayed further if not all of the '13's are sold.

Also if you look at the German website, they say Q3. Perhaps it's slated for global release at the start of July. Jeep may want to consolidate all non-US releases. This may be more important to them than previously due to the current ownership being a European company.
