I agree, I said you would be stupid to do just that.
But there is a difference between what can clearly be seen as reasonable and unreasonable figures stated here.
Take that Ltd for $61,500 that started this topic, that was in no way an outrageous claim, you don't have to look very hard (carsales.com.au, the dealership I walked into today) to see that it is a few thousand above MY13 versions; so reasonable.
If he had said $58,000 then I too would be calling BS, and asking for proof.

As for my forum comment, I meant in comparison to a completely open forum commented on by randoms as the norm. You can see this has a base in help, if their are BS comments made (and yes there have been a few) they get called out in a specific manner.
We have a Reputation Rating available for members, so if you see a member with a high Rep value, it would be safe to actually consider (not take blind faith) in their words. I know I value my rating, as I am sure others do too.

I am not putting in this forum the results of our group buy quotes, that would be out of place and seriously moronic, and why I have stated that we will soon take if off site completely. But I can offer a guide based on those figures and what I have seen offered. Exactly as I did for that Ltd CRD figure.

Even if a member posted an official quote given to them, that means absolutely nothing to any one else but the person with that quotation. All it can do is offer a base of what can be achieved, no dealer has any obligation to match it.

You can look at current RRPs, current advertised prices (Car Sales etc..) or actually walk into dealerships, MY13 Ltd CRD $59,990 advertised today by Parramtatta, Ltd CRD Lux Pack $63,???. So you see these figures and know what room they have to move.
Now if they choose do so is entirely up to them.
Overheads for say Penrith are far lower than Five Dock or Frankston vs City Jeep or Alice vs anywhere. So each dealer takes that into account.
Their choice, but at least you can go in with an idea, something to aim for.

The current MY13 Laredo CRD is listed as $53,348 drive away for here in NSW at a few dealers.
So $52,000 for MY14 is not a super deal, good, but not super special.

I see Cairns is listed at $56,146, so a much better deal as far as you are concerned.
You have higher delivery fee ($2995 vs $0), Rego & Stamp Duty but lower Compulsory Insurance.

It is called tax fraud, is actually a criminal act and you can be assured the ATO know about it. They will audit people with vehicle trading licenses eventually and anyone who is not running a legit business will be caught.

Penalties are 200% of the tax avoided plus criminal prosecution. Glen Wheatley went to jail for tax avoidance that was not a lot of money. It's dumb. You may not like LCT but if you don't want to pay it buy a car under 57K.

100% spot on Bob. I like to sleep at night. I still believe we in AU pay too much for cars, but it is what it is. You either want the car and pay the price, or you dont and live with your decision.

Julia, if you or your advisers care about the next election, maybe increase the LCT threshold. It might give you a chance, but I doubt it. Tony, if you or your advisors are reading this, if you increase the threshold, then you will perform a Newman and absolutely annihilate the Labour party.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The problem with people putting up car quotes on the forum is that there are many factors that go into their end price. Very few people just go and pay cash for a car.

Things like location, financing, tradein, options and how it is purchased affect the bottom line.
Someone buying on a novated lease in QLD from a large company will always get a better deal than a grey nomad buying private in NSW.

I am all for people to share pricing info, but it should be used as a guide to the "street price" that can be obtained. I do not think we need to scan up quotes or prove anything. Just because it is on the Interwebs does not make it true.

This is a discussion site, not a site for who can pay the lowest price. What we want is a fair deal.

You are Correct Enforcer.
Way too much chatter about "what I paid".
Guys... Do your homework, let your fingers do the walking. Know exactly what you want to purchase with what accessories, then call as many dealers requesting a quote. Also... when requesting a quote, ask the expected delivery time. When you have that feedback, you will be in a position to make informed decisions.
p.s. If you can remove a trade-in from your negotiations, the exercise will be much simpler.

All fair points, in previous experience with novated fleet deals, it's not at all uncommon for the dealer to make nothing on the vehicle to only a few hundred dollars, because they are after the turnover so they get volume bonuses which boost the profit on all the other cars they sell to privates.

I've had local dealers fleet person flat out say bullshit, it's not possible for that price, even when shown the quote, and given the option of going a few hundred more, they are not interested in it because its a loss.

IMO you want to pick a target price that leaves say 2k profit for the dealer, but only if you are a non needy customer. Nothing worse than having to deal with a nit picking pita when there was buggar all profit in it in the first place. Or the person who needs 5 test drives, and overnight test drives- that customer needs mor profit built in to cover their costs.

100% agree, if you do your homework, the dealer can get you the car you want at the time you want and it is within your price range and you can afford it then it is a good deal... May not be the BEST deal but it is a good one. By doing my home work I know where I live my dealers verbal offer was a BAD one.. "Well we sell the MY13 Overland for $79K, Jeep said the MY14 will be about $2K more so plan on spending about $82K.." NO Mr dealer I do NOT plan on spending that.

I have found a CRD Overland that checks all the boxes for me that a dealer will have in stock in around 2 weeks. I am expecting to have to pay pretty close to market value so I dont get placed on a waiting list and suffer the pain that so many others have talked about. I will however compare the price to the bulk buy quote. If that come in multiple K$ below then it would make sense to go wi that. This will be the 3rd time I have bought a new car from interstate and a plan a family holiday around it..
No matter what the deal is I won't take it unless they throw in a set of fluffy dice.
