Front Row and looks like at least second row are all Overlands. I wonder what will be the most popular in the US.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

maybe if Toyota re-vamped the Prado with a decent turbo diesel, say 200kw + 600Nm, 8 speed auto, air suspension and updated stylish interior I would take it... oh but hang on then Toyota would think they could charge $120K for it as they manage to charge $100K for the current barge with a 3.0l engine with less power and torque than a Kia/Hyundai 2.2 diesel, an antiquated 5 speed auto and and corolla looking interior.

Hey Mark. Your signature pic. The wheels are not bright silver but a dull colour. Any idea what Australia is getting. I prefer the bright shiny ones being a bling type of guy.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I was at my local Nissan dealer last week and noticed the new Patrol. I test drove one over 2 years ago in Dubai and was impressed by it, but knew it would be a fuel guzzler.
Having a look at it in the dealership in Oz made me realise how far behind they already are now. Seeing them on the lot for $120k just made me wonder how they are going to sell any of them. Apparently the dealership is expected to move 1 per month. They have had them for 2 months and are yet to sell a single one.

The dealer said that the Jeep GC has changed the market, as it has Merc/Audi/BMW features for Toyota Prado. He was not confident of selling any Patrols.
This is what I found too, when I was cross shopping for a X5 and could not go past the JGC. I do not know what car will be a true competitor to the JGC as an equal 4x4 will lack the features (Prado, pathfinder) an Euro SUV will cost 50% more or a local/asian SUV will lack the features and offroad ability (Territory/ix35/etc)

For anyone waiting and are doubting their decision, WAIT, it is worth it. Just keep hounding the dealer and Jeep AU for your VON and then track it through this site. That way you can keep up to date with where it is and when you will get it.

I am now considering a '14 or '15 SRT, as I am sick of the great fuel economy and need to have heaps of P O W E R

fwdjeep is on a distinguished road
It is a wonder that the Jeep dealers sell anything, with their attitude lack f service etc and Jeep Australia are to date no better
They fail on service and a total lack information keep the customer up to date

As to Toyota - over priced and overrated Parado is hopeless with only a 2.5 ton tow capacity and way too dear for what it is.

The new patrol Yep saw it walked away Nissan is pitching it against the Lexus and high end europeion market again Nissan Aust have no idea of there potential market
Nissan is keeping the GU BUT they claim not be interested in upgrading the current 3.lt motor and outdated gearbox so they too have no idea of the market place in Australia

Jeep GC is a nice vehicle - great looking vehicle BUT the dealers are doing there best to drive customers away from the brand
If only Jeep Aust staff actually did not see the customer as the enemy what a powerful brand it could be

Is it that all the salesmen go the same "How to piss off the customer" course and it must be the same for the likes of Jeep Aust etc staff

Frustrated

For size and comfort the MB R350 MY11 (current and last model) is the best we have driven, but quite a bit more, also been looking at a RR sport MY12.

From inside, where you spend most of your time you don't really know whether you are in an Overland or a Summit. I will go with an Overland but would I be mad if Jeep later introduced the Summit, really mad.
Yep, I don't care if Summit or Overland as long as it is spec'ed like summit.

You know I'm right.
Yes, price or bang for buck is never going to be beat, but Jeep need to take a hard look as price is only going to go so far. As people have pointer out, if this is the level of customer service as sales level, what will after sales service be like.

I did take a look at the R class also, it's sort of in the people mover class in my mind and not so sure on resale. They are however very practical and stylish.

RR Sport would be my 1st choice if I could stomach the price it's a great package and they hold their price very well. Could take a hit when the new RRS comes out in 2014 but then again the new one is supposed to be going up in price.

The RRS felt a bit slower than the Jeep even though it has more power n torque, I guess it's just a heavy beast sitting at 2500-2600 kg.

The MY11 are starting to get around the $80K level and this model also introduced the electric tailgate. You still miss out on perforated leather and heated seats, think you need the "Luxury" spec to get this stuff, they were over $130k new on the road !

Disco 4 is also a great truck, now with 8 speed auto, but the looks are polarising ( I.e. wife HATES it ) also more exy than the Jeep unless you go 2nd hand.

Merc GL350 BluTec MY11 onwards (195kw, 620Nm) another great machine but still over $100K for 1-2 year old

Audi Q7 with the 4.2 TDI another nice drive, you can just get into an MY10 for around $80k.

On the Toyota front, While the Prado IMO is a joke, the LC 200 series Sahara TDV8 is a beast, I had an 08 when they first came out but they are very expensive, no air suspension.

Merc ML and BMW X5 don't really thrill me and are really just station wagons with no offroad capability at all ( dirt road maybe) nice but overrated, cant really claim you own a German made car when its made in the USA, i feel people just buy it for the badge and because they cant afford the equivalent E class or 5 series.

So ... I guess it's back to the Jeep GC Overland !

You may have seen this,

"everything was coming up roses for Chrysler. The importer sold 2144 units in February, which was a 34.9 per cent improvement on the result in February 2012. Chief among the brand's products achieving beyond expectation was the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which sold 970 units for the month, doubling its tally from a year earlier. The company is anticipating its strongest quarter ever once the VFACTS figures for March are released. "

Very good breakdown here Mark, all true. For me I don't care if I have 4WD we are just trying to find a big family car as there are 5 of us. In fact if I stick the Jeep I will maybe get the 2WD that is supposed to be coming this time. Less parts to fail, less weight, better L/Klm etc.. My big issue is I don't want to wait any longer and can't bring myself to going the MY12/13 as I really want that 8 speed. You say the Disco is a great option, but I have the same problem you have (wife hates the look) very roomy.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Firstly, as stated before if you want to know what is really going on then this is the only place.

Secondly, you have to just wait don't you. In the long run a few months won't make any difference. Right now it does but in the long run it won't. I would have ordered the SRT by now but I HAVE too wait for the full black leather. If I don't I know I will regret it " in the long run".

Also I can't believe that Jeep do not have a 22" wheel option available for the SRT. They are missing out on sales for sure. The aftermarket wheel companies must be laughing. All the boys in the US are running them.
