Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Happiness! Just spoke to the dealership. Less than an hour ago, they had an email that our CRD Overland has been slated for transport to them from Minto.

They will receive it either tomorrow or Friday. Can take delivery of it Tues or Wednesday (after they do whatever they do to it). Can however go in on Friday and sit in it and have a play.

Happy, happy, happy...

On another note, got a recall notice from Jeep Au yesterday for the WK (WH). Software upgrade needed but not available from the US until July. That's fine - I get to keep 'B1' (as I call her) a bit longer, even after 'B2' arrives home next week.

Cannot ethically sell her whilst recall update is not done.

Sent Adelaide City a quote request for an Overland about 3 weeks ago. Only response back was an auto-reply, nothing since. I guess they have made enough money this year they don't need any more sales..

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi again. Since posting my questions about extended warranty options for a 2014 SRT, I've done some digging and after being quoted $4,700 for 1 year or $5,500 for two years extended warranty by one dealer, I've got some better options from Stratton Finance. They can offer Allianz warranties at the same price as the dealer quoted above, but they also have AWN (Australian Warranty Network) warranties available. depending on the classification of the 2014MY cars, they might be $2,000 or $2,150 for an additional 36 months and up to a total of 200,000 kms. They also offer 12 months for either $1,300 or $1,400. Alex at Stratton suggested that AWN had some issues a few years ago but in recent times a lot has changed and they are now much better to deal with. I'd welcome any comments on recent experiences on this - good and bad.

As a side note, Alex also asked if I'd arranged finance for the car. I have, but I let him give me a comparison. He came back with 5.49% for a chattel mortgage (with 50% plus business use) over 5 years with a 35% residual. My current financier is within a whisker of that figure so I'm not swapping, but it looks pretty competetive if you haven't got anything lined up yet. Alex reckons you could get an approval within 24 hours and it's a 'yes / no' answer at the 5.49% not a sliding scale of increasing interest rates as with some other lenders.

Alex's details are here if you want to contact him: Alex West (02) 9843 5406 alex.west@stratton.com.au

Anyway, I'll get off my soap-box now. Please let me know if you've had good / bad experiences with AWN recently or have any better options for an extended warranty.

Cheers,

GB

Went and spoke to the dealer at Brighton Jeep today and he reckons he won't see the diesels for another 4 weeks!! He should read JG more often and get the facts. Had a Black Laredo and limited petrol sitting side by side. Our Laredo does get the 8.2" screen, whereas I think the USA get a smaller one. I must say that the new gear shift lever (even tho its only a gear shifter), looks great. Laredo had a smaller sunroof than the limited, and the limited's leather looks fantastic. Owners of either model will not be disappointed

Hey All

The tyre choice for the 2014 GCs Limited & Overland is Kumho Solus KL21. I have been looking up reviews for the tyre and only found one positive comment yet. Does anyone have an opinion or experience with these tyres?
Reviews suggest they are a road / comfort tyre only with very limited mileage, no grip and quite unsafe when braking. If as bad as I've read, maybe we should all petition Jeep AU for replacements prior to taking delivery of new vehicles.

Any suggestions for a good road / track tyre which is nice and quiet and reasonable longevity?

If you are getting a chattel mortgage, why is there a 50% business use factor? I can't see what the business use has to do at all with that.

And for what it's worth, I had a hard time reading your post on my ipad. It was printed in a pale blue and very hardto see. Of course, it might just be my ipad settings.

Locko - our order was placed in the first week of March. Within days I had the dealer ring back to say that they had placed the order and had received an email confirmation of it back from Chrysler Au/Jeep Au. Assumed at this point the order was placed with the US. (Assumed correctly it seems).

The dealer did say today also that ours was the only CRD Overland they had at this point. He also said they had no SRT's at this stage. They have Limited's and Laredo's - all petrol but no other CRD's.

I think your dealer was correct in saying that there would be a small wait on further CRD's at this stage.

Hang in there - they're coming.

ETA: They have on the floor now Limited's and Laredos's petrol but no other CRD's.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

$5k for an extended warranty!! Holy crap!

Extended warranties have a little bit of the Ming Mole smell to them - up there with paint , fabric. protection etc. the aftermarket ones don't have a good reputation for being useable when the time comes - suspect too much is paid out in commission ?

This is not rule of thumb, but i have generally found that real low mileage tyres give good road grip, due to their softness. The new Cooper AT3 tyres are quite good by the reports that I've heard. They aren't all that noisey, give good mileage and are good for tracks

I think the general view is that the Kumho are pretty crappy, I got rid of mine at 3000km. There has been one or two people here who report that they have gone OK however. Depends on your use I guess, like most things...

There is a 20" tyre thread here :

Hi Locko, Don't believe anything Brighton Jeep tells you, I have a list of BJL's (Brighton Jeep Lies) that is now into double figures and I'm still months away from obtaining delivery. Running a book with the wife, she's on at least 20 but I'm going for 30 lies before we see the car. Anybody else keeping score on dealer lies?

I know, but it helps to pass the time whilst waiting for what will end up being nearly 12 months from order to delivery.
