Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Some of the points raised in the last few postings deserve serious consideration.
The current Jeep has a warranty period of 3 years, 100,000kms.
The issue of parts failing, and the lack of available spares in Australia, meaning you could be waiting 4-8 weeks without transport, needs to be considered.
The cost of parts, for example a headlight $2,600, (Bulbs extra) also needs serious thought.
Therefore, if you are intending to keep your new car for longer than 3 years, you should look at what the implications are if you have a breakdown in a remote area, get stuck for weeks on end waiting for parts, which may break your bank when you have to pay for them.
Jeep ownership is not for everyone.

Wink Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Comes down to a question of cost. I have had a couple of mechanics say the JGC is a nice car but they would not own one out of warranty. Not exactly a glowing reference ![/QUOTE

I think this is a unrealistic comment on a car no one owns yet. Yes, Jeeps of yester year were not exactly built all that great, they have come a long way since then. I certainly don't think i will have trouble free motoring in or out of warranty, i expect it as a consumer but i am kidding myself. Before i thought about an SRT i was going to buy a second hand BMW X6 with 25,0000ks on it, my mechanic asked if i was friggin nuts to put it politely, as would be the with any top end modern car. So it's not a case of the brand itself, but a generalisation of cars today. Let's not discredit these cars before we all take ownership, i suggest we wait until we take delivery and enjoy them as intended, that is why we decided to go ahead with the purchases afterall........right!

How old would that X6 have been ? I have not been into any BMW forums - do they have a problem or a reliability rep? I would have thought a 1 -2 year old BMW or Mercedes with a year left on a warranty would be a reliable car. Maybe I am wrong.

A beautiful sight. A batch arrived at Castle Hill NSW overnight. I took several photos. Strange thing though is that there's 4 Summits. I thought Oz wasn't getting any?? 3 White and 1 Black.

Keep your pants on. They're only Limited and Laredos. Just thought I'd give you a good morning wake up call. Good Morning!

P.S. The Jeeps are really in - just no Summits.
Captain, you bugger. I only read the first part of your message and just complained to Shannon at Werribee Jeep. I was on the phone as reading your post because my car is still on target for tomorrow or Saturday morning. Then I read the next line and had to apologise to Shannon....don't do those things to me.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi all,

as I have had an Overland on order since early March, I have been keenly following this thread and find the lack of information out of Fiat Chrysler in Australia bordering on disgraceful. But there may be some blame cast back to the US, when the US site first announced the MY14 JGC, the site allowed you to sign up for the latest news about the new JGC and it would be emailed out to the subscribers. Well I never received anything, so whether the emails were never sent as being non-US recipient, I don't know. But there was never a notice that non-US recipients could not apply! So the lack of information could be as a result of very little coming out of Jeep US.

I am getting mine through Five Dock and also understand that they were to receive a Laredo and Limited, no Overlands in the first wave, and so still no idea if the Australian Overlands would be significantly different to the Summit.

By the way, is the ECB still the only bull bar for the Overland?

Funnily enough, just got off the phone to a friend with. 320i, and she said she will never have another BMW . Flat tyre, $700, new brake discs for front $1000, oil change $480, needs topping up with oil between services.....

Raping and pillaging didn't die out with Attila the Hun.
