Now that Holden has come out with remote start, and seemingly got around what I was told was a law in Australia re remote starts, wonder if we can get the retrofit key fob and kit for remote start?

Hellish useful on a mid 30's day to be able to get the air up and going for a few minutes before you get there.....
This has been discussed a few times. Remote start falls in a loophole. In a public place, a car must be locked with windows no more than 2cm open and keys out if you are 3m or more from it. You must also switch off the engine before leaving the vehicle. Starting the engine before approaching the vehicle is not covered, so as long as the car is locked you're fine.

The problem is mechanical compatibility rather than legality. ADRs require a steering lock in Australia, so we have a different steering column than the USA. Our steering column is not compatible with the Mopar remote start kit.

It is possible to do it, but it would be rather expensive and render your car unroadworthy. There are always the aftermarket kits if you really want it.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hymer is probably on the right track.
The Fat Cats are probably wineing and dineing a couple of journos and supporters so they can deliver the new model with a little fanfare, and pretend (at least for a few minutes), that they are important. They will probably cut a seatbelt with some Mopar scissors to allow the grubby hands to feel a touchup of the new lights.
Then in their typical efficient processes, probably fax the pricing list to the wrong dealerships, such as VW.

Webber - dropped in at Werribee to chat to Shannon. Saw your JEEP48 plates on his desk and he'd been one the phone harassing his freight guys to get your car there. All on track for you I'd say!! Good luck.....

[QUOTE=Studgun;841327] In a public place, a car must be locked with windows no more than 2cm open and keys out if you are 3m or more from it.

Is that a NT law or Australia wide? I must admit I have not heard of it but it is a while since I did my drivers license test. Why cant I leave my car unlocked if I want ? Dont know why I would but surely its my choice? I often walk to the till to pay for petrol and leave the car unlocked when I am more than 3m away from it.

Australian Road Rules, so Australia wide.

It's theft prevention really. Unfortunately that's the society we live in this days, and we have to cater to the lowest denominator to protect the stupid from themselves.

I have learnt my new piece of information for the day. Think i need to update my knowledge of the road rules.

But I do find this nanny state stuff rather annoying too. Pity the poor LEOs who have to enforce this stuff.

I've enforced it once. Some idiot left his car running at a servo while he went in and bought some lunch. Someone simply got in the car and drove off. A considerable amount of our time was wasted looking for his sh*tbox, which was later recovered unharmed. Thieves are opportunistic, so why give them the opportunity?

As much as I hate saying it, I think I'm going to miss all you guys jokes/criticism when we all get our cars....

On a brighter note, the next shipment comes into Australia tomorrow and it will have the crd's on them as well!
