OK - so is there a thread somewhere on JG whereby you cursed the vehicle only to find out that actually, you should have read the manual?
Not sure I should admit this -
Driving home today - enjoying the ride... (refer Webber's poetic-ness) and all of a sudden I lose complete illumination on the dash as well as the touchscreen.
Car driving fine though - music still playing. Concerned but can't do anything - country road with no pull over areas - another car up my backside. 4 minutes from home though.
Drive up and park. Exit vehicle and start on at husband who is building stuff. Ranting and raving - something about only having the bloody car for 24 hours and there's a problem etc etc...
He, putting down tools, very calmly says 'tell me what happened'.
He looks at it and says (like he's talking to a 2 year old which is on retrospect appropriate) - 'were you in shade - did it get sort of dark?'
OK - car has turned on headlamps - did you notice headlamp symbol on dash?'
Uhhh... yes ... but everything else was dark.
To which he says - 'there's a rotary dial at the very right - turn it up, lets test' 'Ahh... that's ok now isn't it'
Setting on illumination was at its lowest. Headlights came on when it sensed low light even though it was only 3pm and illumination setting because it was set at it's lowest deadened all visuals.
Can I blame being female?
When you pick up your new one, check that dimmer rotary dial. OK?
Edited to add: It's page 88-89 of the manual. (Scurries off to continue reading)
