Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I got the call on Monday arvo that the car I want was here (Deep Cherry Red SRT). But alas it was just a tease from the dealer, the car he was talking about was someone elses order (damnit!). But I was welcome to come and have a look and touch, but no drive. So trusty camera phone in tow this is what I got to play with for 10mins or so...... (yes it has the CD player, but I don't know what your all bitchin about, it just teaches you to keep less crap in your car lol).

Sadly at least 3 months before I get my own one.

Sorry about the crap quality.

Actually there is a difference.

The ORAII is the Off-Road Adventure Group II which is designed for city folk who venture off-road maybe once or twice in their lifetime which becomes an "Adventure" for them.

The ORII is essentially the same pack but designed for the salt of the earth people where the adventure is gone and going Off-Road is just a normal part of everyday life.

Have I got that right auscop?

I suppose if we were to use the correct acronym, it should be the ORAG II - but somehow I don't think it sounds right....

The ORIIA is also similar, but is referred to as "On-Road II Adventure", designed for city folk who are driving out to the country for an adventure, via paved roads.

Not sure I should admit this -

Driving home today - enjoying the ride... (refer Webber's poetic-ness) and all of a sudden I lose complete illumination on the dash as well as the touchscreen.

Car driving fine though - music still playing. Concerned but can't do anything - country road with no pull over areas - another car up my backside. 4 minutes from home though.

Drive up and park. Exit vehicle and start on at husband who is building stuff. Ranting and raving - something about only having the bloody car for 24 hours and there's a problem etc etc...

He, putting down tools, very calmly says 'tell me what happened'.

He looks at it and says (like he's talking to a 2 year old which is on retrospect appropriate) - 'were you in shade - did it get sort of dark?'

Umm... yes?

OK - car has turned on headlamps - did you notice headlamp symbol on dash?'

Uhhh... yes ... but everything else was dark.

To which he says - 'there's a rotary dial at the very right - turn it up, lets test' 'Ahh... that's ok now isn't it'

Setting on illumination was at its lowest. Headlights came on when it sensed low light even though it was only 3pm and illumination setting because it was set at it's lowest deadened all visuals.

How embarrassing. Can I blame being female?

When you pick up your new one, check that dimmer rotary dial. OK?

Edited to add: It's page 88-89 of the manual. (Scurries off to continue reading)
Classic!

brings back memories of when i was rebuilding a car, and had finished everything, then i decided to change the cassette deck to a cd player. i was so excited. I had to pull half the dash apart, but it didnt worry me, as i would be able to listen to CD's! I installed the CD player, and meticulously put the dash back together, clip by clip, screw by screw. I thought ill turn on the ignition, and check to see its all working that night, as i had a club cruise the following day. CD player was awesome! i tried changing the modes on the AC. I remembered that you could hear the air passing thru something as you turned the dial. The same dial that had about 6 hoses connected to the back of it, that I labeled so id make sure they all went back in the same spot. only one problem, no air sound! so the first thing that comes into my head is did I put all the hoses on the back of it correctly?? I pull apart the whole dash again. check, its all connected.... but is it correct?. i decide to swap a few hose locations. put the dash back together again. Turn the key to ACC, and try again. Still no air noise. by now its 11pm and im cursing! My neighbour sees the light on in the Shed, and comes over on his tractor. Offers me a beer and says "cleaning something again?" Then he see's the dash parts littered across the shed. asks what i was doing, and i respond telling him what the problem was. He says, did i try starting the car to build up vacuum? I felt like a $2 hooker while he helped me put the dash back together for the 4th time.

Which car are you talking about?

The red one had the Goliaths yes, and you know what, I like them even more seeing them in person.

If your talking about the white with Sepia it looked awesome. I never really considered the Sepia due to it not being "full" coloured, ie seat backs, rest of door trim etc. But now that I have seen it, touched it and sat in it, I like it. If a DCR with my options came in and had Sepia, I would lose sleep deciding whether to take it or not. I wouldn't pay the $3k option price for it, but if it was free, then maybe I would. I do know the new owners love it

EDIT: I should add the suede roof lining looks sensational, pity I cant option it!

The beast is officially at Prixcar Melbourne. Next step is dealer delivery. People usually say 10 to 14 days. Hmm... Lets see if I can beat that. Might need to jump on LinkedIn and test my six degrease of separation.

Why cant you just wait another 10 - 14 days? Not like you haven't had to wait already.
