Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi all. Good news for me as it seems my GC may have arrived on the Tonsberg in Port Kembla so only 2 or 3 weeks more waiting!
I am supposed to have a tow bar fitted but was told by "a high up Jeep dude" that the wiring loom is not available yet and he doesn't know when it will be. Apparently the tow bar itself is the same as the 2013.
This sounds a bit sus to me. To add to that I've read that Webber is getting his fitted [tomorrow?] Has anyone else had fitting issues for a Jeep dealership fitted tow bar?
He also didn't know about recovery rated front tow hooks.

Due to the change in rear lights the wiring loom is different.
Wasn't that Webbers delay too?

Hmmm, still no one has confirmed recovery hooks can be fitted. I'm starting to smell a rat. I wrote to a jeep HQ contact last week who helped me with the MY12 hook, but silence.

I asked this question to Alex at Jeep Waitara and he said he asked his service manager to look into it and the reply was that it can be fitted. Just what i was told but can't confirm it myself as i don't have a MY14

Thanks, but till I physically see recovery hooks on a MY14 I'm going to be skeptical.

I've pm'd Alex so we will see if he can provide confirmation and cost.

I just got an email from my dealership to say, it's arrived and in location being prepared for delivery. Not sure how long this will take, but it only took 5 days to clear customs after arriving on the Tonsberg. Sometime next week, I'll be in my new ride, maybe my new bed as well.

They sure look like front recoveryy hooks on that picture. The au model isn't yet released officially it seems, so the dearth of information is hardly surprising. But more confident dealerships have seen photos such as the above, know the underbody hasn't changed, so hooks will fit. The only question then becomes, is there replacement plastic bits or do you have to neatly cut them

It is the same as saying you should drink 1.5lt of water every day, but if you do not, you don't drop dead.
Getting in a car cold, start and go immediately is not ideal for a motor, as any mechanical device requires lubrication and is also not running at ideal temp.
By spending a minute or so to allow some heat and oil to move around the motor will reduce the wear.

When it comes to stopping, the turbo can spin for a long time after a motor is shutoff. The oil in the bearings can overheat, as there is no circulation if the motor is switched off. This oil can then breakdown causing a buildup and also premature wear.

By running the motor of 30-60 seconds, it allows the turbo to spin down. It is not a heat issue, rather a lubrication issue.

I cannot remember reading in the JGC manual to warmup or cool down the CRDmotor, it is just good practice to reduce the potential for problems.

Just like changing the oil every 5,000km.

Of all the MY14s I've seen, they all have plastic covers and no visible hook at the front. It will be interesting to see who gets these fitted first so we can all be informed.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Enforcer's right according to the manual. Page 203 Webber.

Quote:
'Before turning off your turbo diesel engine, always allow the engine to return to normal idle speed and run for several seconds. This assures proper lubrication of the turbocharger. This is particularly necessary after any period of hard driving'

Idle the engine a few minutes before routine shutdown. After full load operation, idle the engine three to five minutes before shutting it down. This idle period will allow the lubricating oil and coolant to carry excess heat away.... etc etc.'

Mine is still in the leather folder and has never been opened. I am male, I already know everything about my car.
