Gforce - you're right about the rip off - the amount is as follows:
"Luxury Car Tax is payable to the Australian Tax Office for all vehicles purchased whose price exceeds the luxury car tax threshold (currently $59,133 for the 2012/2013 financial year)."

On the plus side, that is for the price of the car and doesn't n include the $2.1k in stamp duty, or rego $400, pink slip $400, so for a $62k car, the LCT is calculated on 62000 - 2900, so 59100. Yah, under zee threshold......

Getting in a car cold, start and go immediately is not ideal for a motor, as any mechanical device requires lubrication and is also not running at ideal temp.
By spending a minute or so to allow some heat and oil to move around the motor will reduce the wear.

When it comes to stopping, the turbo can spin for a long time after a motor is shutoff. The oil in the bearings can overheat, as there is no circulation if the motor is switched off. This oil can then breakdown causing a buildup and also premature wear.

By running the motor of 30-60 seconds, it allows the turbo to spin down. It is not a heat issue, rather a lubrication issue.

I cannot remember reading in the JGC manual to warmup or cool down the CRDmotor, it is just good practice to reduce the potential for problems.

Just like changing the oil every 5,000km.
A formal "Thanks" issued in appreciation.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Is anyone else having a problem with the rear cameras. My dealer states they are dealer fitted and are atleast 2 months away from being supplied by Jeep Australia. I was surprised as I have not seen any comments about buyers not receiving their cameras

Otherwise I don't think it matters a great with modern diesels if you pre warm them, unless of course maybe during winter.

All engines petrol and diesel do benefit by a slight warm up and easy use of the throttle until the engine has reached operating temperature, this equals better engine life and less fuel used. My Nissan Patrol turbo diesel ( soon to be sold) has a warm up switch which when activated ups the revs a little when on idle. I have always followed the above and my Patrol has clocked up over 300,000 km and the engine is still like new, I get good economy and the engine oil never needs topping up.

Lastly, all you prospective and owners of Jeep CRD's please be sure to change your oil on or before it's required, diesels are very hard on engine oil because the oil structure breaks down much quicker than a similar petrol engine. A lot of this is due to the much higher stresses and piston gas blow by which affects your oil, nothing wrong with using the manufacturers standard recommended oil, just change it often.

( I don't pretend to be a big diesel expert, but I was for many years a member of the Institute of Automotive Mechanical Engineers and my mate Bert is a wizard when it comes to fixing big diesels).

Hope this has been of some assistance.
Gforce.....a formal "Thanks" to you to.

Maybe I was lucky being one of the first to drive an MY14 - driving out of the showroom within hours of the formal release date. It certainly was fitted with the reversing camera. So many are now moving through the dealerships that maybe they have not kept up with supply. That's not good.

I have dealt with Chris Sleeman for the last 7 months since ordering.
He has been in contact with me the whole time. I was never left in the dark.
He has been with this dealer for 6 years and therefore is a good solid contact. I also might add that the price was much better than elsewhere and was not increased for the model change.

AS a final note., the car is absolutely fantastic except that the voice recognition is not working. This is obviously a common problem.
If anyone has knowledge on this please advise.

My car is booked in for Tuesday morning to correct the failed VR (voice recognition). They hooked it up the other day and the machine could not detect the problem. They are checking with HQ for advice so hopefully I may be able to shed more light on this problem next Tuesday.

I've also been told this. Estimated August for availability. It relates to Laredo only, Limited and Overland is fitted in the factory.

I can confirm that twin front recovery hooks can be fitted to the MY14 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The part number is 82212095.

I was at Werribee Jeep last Saturday and test drove the Laredo (CRD is just awesome). This did not have camera - we were told that Laredo's are fitted in AUS and no tdone yet, but pretty sure he said Limited and Overland already fitted in US.

Just been informed from ECB that their existing bullbar does not suit the 2014 Overland. So that leaves very little for protection for the new beast. With mine due late August I was hoping to protect it when I go down the back country roads I travel frequently. With panel parts seemingly in similar stock quantities, watching out for wildlife will be my utmost priority.
