Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Looks fantastic Auscop. Bet you've got a grin from ear to ear.

Look forward to reading of the trip home - (the longgggg....) trip home. Oh and take that ugly sticker off the liftgate window. I think Prixcars put them on - ugly schmugly.

Not my worry !, I own a 2011!, it came with front tow hooks!.
I fab up all sorts of bits and pieces for our camper trailer and fitting out of our GC!, but when it comes to rated recovery points I don't muck around!, if you ever see a recovery point or strap break under 4000kg of load you will know why!!!!!!!!!

Many had asked about the Laredo tyres, they're Michelins as we all first thought, though the spare is a Khumo.

Brake controller will fit in the cubby, more pics in the towing thread.

Re tow hook, Alex at Waitara has ordered some and will have them fitted to a MY14 as soon as they arrive. He will takes pics to show it done and the area with the bodywork off.

May be so but that's the second day in a row of waking at 3am. I tried counting sheep but all I saw was Baa Baaa and I left my glasses in the car I can barely read the iPad.

You make a good point Yoda42, but there is a better way of using recovery points where you don't ever reach the 4000 kg break point.

In my old Club in which I was involved with for over 10 yrs,I have seen lots of mishaps with recovery straps, they are very very dangerous even when used correctly. One incident that stands out was when we tried to snatch a vehicle out of an uphill bog, the U shackle pin broke ( and yes it was a rated shackle) the strap and shackle then became a missile, it passed through the back window of the tow vehicle took out the passenger head rest ( luckily the wife was not in the seat, but on the side lines) then continued through the windscreen and beyond until the strap could continue no further.

What came out of this final series of incidents was a total Club ban on snatching, the straps could only be used for slow recovery or towing. Further enquiries by our committee found that the Army also had a ban on using snatch straps, except for (and this says it all) use by Armoured Vehicles only.

So guys & gals do yourself a favour just use your recovery points and straps for easy recovery, you will find it is still a very effective way of getting any vehicle out of trouble.
