Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I thought I saw somewhere (maybe in my dreams) that ambient lighting was now standard on the MY14's. Is that not correct?
If not, it is very easy to make it yourself, for under $50.

The build sheet for my Overland shows "under seat lighting" if that's related.

Yes. That is ambient lighting, however, it is not the same as what Webber has installed. The "old" ambient lighting, from Mopar, had multi colour led's which you could alter via a knob on the console. It was very pricey. The new lighting is one colour, and cant be controlled,

Your dreams are correct Allypally.

It's standard, except Webber wants his to be brighter. The ambient lighting is blue in the cup holders and side door thingee's (from memory - it's blue somewhere anyway) but soft white in the foot wells back and front.

I think it's fine but it sure ain't disco lighting.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Just got notified from Shannon at Werribee Jeep that my MY14 Laredo CRD will be arriving at the dealership 9th September. I am then off to Fraser Island with it on the 23rd. We bought a pre-ordered stock order as it had the QL and off road adventure pack that I was after. It also has AFF - Luxury Group. Can anyone tell me what this includes for the Laredo?

......and allypally. This addiction is sad. Computer has crashed so now on the iPhone for my fix. The ambient lighting is great on this car but can't agree on the foot wells front & rear.....it's disappointing in my opinion. I am having the genuine accessory fitted at the moment so will report and post pics. LEDs in changeable colours. I had already spent the money a year ago so thought I would get dealer to fit this genuine part. I have asked that the switch be in a discreet place and not as per instructions which involves punching a hole in my centre console. Allypally, u might be right about the $50 thing but I did look at off the shelf ones a year ago and rang two auto elecs to see if they would fit it. Both declined stating too risky with this car in case they interfered with its electronics and computer etc. Anyway hopefully it won't look like some of the dance scenes I went to in the late 60's early 70,s. I will know tomorrow. I've got my fingers crossed. However, I don't consider the current footwell all that good in my Overland. I would suggest SJandL has better night vision than me.

That's great, why don't we both head off and call past the Captain and JosephR when they get their Grand Cherokees in Sydney and form a Convoy to Fraser Island. Let's turn a few heads in paradise. Post some stories of your experience on how it handles the sand.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Not criticising, but I built and installed a $50 LED ambient lighting system for my Overland last year. It runs off the internal lighting, so is dimmable. Lights up both front and back seat footwells, since it is LED, no issues with CANBUS.

Ripped some CD's and synch'ed the SD card today with music and tested it for the first time. It recognised it straight off and up came the music. Controlled it through VR no problem.

I love this vehicle. I mean I really, really love this vehicle. I just smile all the time when I drive it. It's outstanding so far - (looking for a piece of wood to touch and hope it doesn't make a liar out of me in the coming months).
I hope there is no "hanky panky's going on.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

After I posted that I kept searching and discovered there is a difference between mud guards and mud flaps. According to a Vicroads roadworthy checklist, mud flaps are not a requirement, but mud guards are. Mud guards are part of the car and must come out wider than the tyre ( I think!).

I also looked at the photos on the JA website- not a mud flap to be seen. I do remember reversing over one in the Prado once and it ripped off, so maybe they are more trouble than they are worth?
