No disrespect by this but why would they bother when they have so many people pretty much signing blank cheques?, "I have no idea what your selling me but here is my commitment for 80k"

I can't believe so many people do this. It's crazy to me.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

But we do know, generally speaking given Milous's posting below. (my bold)

The GC Overland is what we want and have wanted since 12/15 months ago to replace our current WK model. So given that, it's not a crazy decision.

Fortunately/Unfortunately (you choose) we did not purchase because we got wind of a '14 model being released and were and are prepared to wait.

And I'm not signing a blank cheque as you put it. I already had that same amount of money earmarked for the '13 model so it still just sits in our account waiting for when I need to hand it over.

You know, sometimes I feel a bit sorry for Chrysler/Jeep at the moment. Here is a company that 3-4 years ago were on the verge of going bankrupt. A lot of companies find themselves in that position but to add to that angst, they happened to be the one responsible for an American Icon.

A very unenviable position to find oneself in (and it reminds me of similar situation that a Danish company found themselves in not so long ago - The TLG company or you would know them simply as Lego).

Both companies through strategic decision making whether that be head-hunting rival designers, shedding unnecessary peripherals, tightening quality control etc, have made remarkable comebacks but, at the cost of not being able to supply when demand has exceeded their expectation.

I think that the global demand for the new GC has caught them by surprise.

You could argue that it shouldn't have, but given the financial situation of the company 4 years ago, I think if I were CFO of it, I would lean on the side of manufacturing conservatively as well (as you would).

All credit to the designers/engineers and manufacturing teams for getting the brand back on its feet again. A tough gig no matter what way you look at it.

I'm patient (130,000 km on the current WK, still schmick and performing well as usual) so it will see us through until the new model arrives.

End of my Saturday ramblings.

SJ&L it's good to hear your current Jeep gave you no problems.. I've been looking at Jeep Oz Facebook page and there is nothing but issues there, quite disheartening and makes one question the decision to spend so much on a Jeep. I'm putting it down to the general rule that happy people say nothing but unhappy people generally make a lot of noise..

It's my first Jeep and first American car... I hope I don't live to regret it ( like I did my Audi Q7)

That Facebook page is scary and you're right - happy people don't post.

I'd been lying if I said we had no issues in the past but overall mechanically we haven't. The Sat/Nav computer was replaced whilst it was still under warranty - it refused to calibrate and we had a weird issue two or so years ago whereby turning the key would not start her. Nothing - it wouldn't turn over at all.

It only happened when it had been sitting in the sun and only then sometimes it wouldn't start. It was random. We didn't take it in though - my husband got the 'irks' with it (that's the polite way of saying it) and decided to look at it himself.

Pulling of the front panel (to right of the steering column and where the ignition is) he discovered that the dealership in Qld where the vehicle had come from, had installed the Blue Tooth device in the same spot as where the wires of the start ignition were. (?? something like that).

I'm not mechanically minded so not exactly sure what it was coming into contact with exactly, so excuse my layman's description, but basically he relocated it to the very right hand side, away from the ignition and we haven't had an issue since.

Look, on occasion the orange transmission light comes on but sure enough and per the manual, within two/three driving cycles it goes off. Am sure it has something to do with the fuel emissions (??) My husband purchased one of those decoder things a while ago and it reported fuel emission errors causing it but it doesn't interfere with the operation of the vehicle at all.

Servicing is not cheap (but I suspect neither would your Audi or equivalent) but we were in San Diego 12 months or so ago and so picked up spare brake pads etc from the dealership in Carlsbad and brought them home with us. So much cheaper.

We love our Jeep hence the order of the new one and I'm sure you will love it as well.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

this should be close to the AU Overland spec ( but on top we will have headlight washers and Front & Rear parking sensors)

Jeep - Build & Price - Vehicle Summary

this build includes CRD, ATG & QDII

Petty they wouldn't fit the Summit front air dam on our Overlands. They look Sensational.

Or will they? Just noticed that the Summit will be added to the range for Europe.

Maybe they will add the Summit here in Australia?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

I see Jeep/Fiat/Chrysler/Dodge /Ram/Alfa Romeo /Mopar LLC Aust (or whatever theyre called this week) have started on "Jeep; we got a Jeep Huh?? You gotta Jeeep; Yup, wegotta Jeep" ads ad nauseum.
Wish to bloody hell they could put their efforts and money into organising the correct import of their bread and butter product called a MY14 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Not onlythe decision making process of what JGC vehicles are coming downunder, but educating their dealers and salesforce into the product. And setting up a efficient dealer servicing and parts distribution business as well.
It all goes hand in glove with selling a product but this mob are incapable of doing that.
They are good at "Jeep; we got a Jeep Huh?? You gotta Jeeep; Yup, we gotta Jeep"
ads though. As that Brain Surgeon said to another in the operating theatre on one ad, 'IT AINT BRAIN SURGERY YOU KNOW!!"
Ive said this all before on the Jeep Aust Facebook to no avail.
Oh well, on the QM2 on Thursday, forget my Jeep (or lack of Jeep) worries for 2 months.
Internet is slow and expensive on the big vessel so I'll be out of touch for a while.
Dont slacken off Webber and Robo m8
