Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Wife drives the jeep to restaurant tonight - all good, if not a little slow, but I did back it out of the garage for her.

We leave said restaurant , and wife is told not to use the remote, but to just touch the handle - she does this in a darkened quiet street , and shreeks out in the manner that an angry bird might shreek if it had more volume than an iPhone can possibly muster.

Complete hilarity ensues from family at the reaction of the car unlocking by magic.

Get in car, tell wife to put foot on brake, then press start.

Nothing.

Repeat process and instructions, again nothing. Do this 4 or 5 times, still car seems to want to start but nothing much happens. Eventually I get out go round to her door, hurl her to the ground , step in, and straight away it starts!

Anyway , we calmly drive home, get in garage and I say , ok let's re- enact the scene in the garage. She gets in, modifies the seat etc, puts the keys in the centre console, then puts her foot on the park brake and presses START. Me ; "WTF woman - that's not the flipping brake, that's a park brake you muppet!"

She again screams with laughter, while I tear another chunk of hair out that I can ill afford to lose.

So beware people, what seems like a simple instruction can be anything but simple.

I guess it is Jeep Australia policy to keep customers in the dark. Can't have customers knowing more than the dealers.

Does anyone have a contact address for CJD. The website doesn't have any contact details other than dealers.

I've ordered lots of cars in my driving history and have never until the jeep been able to track my vehicle along the way and Whilst I found it exciting to watch, do you think we play into and stress ourselves with anticipation with the tracking a little too much? I can sort of understand why they no longer issue them as it caused a lot of confusion and for one mine turned up a ship earlier than my tracking specified so I'm
Guessing there was people's who turned up later than specified which would of cause problems

Is it really necessary? You don't get it with any other manufacturer (well at least I've purchased with/when I purchased with)

While it may not be really necessary, it would give me more confidence that my car really has been ordered from the factory and that the right options have been ordered.

I think Jeep are being unnecessarily secretive and I don't know how much I can trust them for the future.

Toyota gave me a tracking number for my current vehicle and I was able to track it from the factory to the boat to Australia.

Some luxury European makes not only let you track them, but invite you to the factory to watch them being made. I was fortunate enough to do this in 2006, and I must say it was one of the best buying experiences ever.

Classic Pharmaboy, my wifer does fine but she is as nervous as all crap driving a $73K car. Claims I should keep the old 4wd for her or buy her a cheap new run about. Logic tells me this is a waste of money... But the thought of getting to drive my GC to work every day is inviting. Beats catching a bus.

My missus is the same - id love to buy her a new alfa ( I know, I'm an glutton for punishment ) but she is happy with her Mazda 6 ( which is a great car by the way). She figures the more expensive the car, the more likely some dope will crash into her.

I do somewhat see your point about your concern of the right car turning up and if it does, with the right options and colours from what I've read on here, but when you think about it those cases are minimal compared to the quantity of vehicles ordered

When did Toyota start doing this?
Must of been post my last Toyota vehicle order circa December 2006

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi All
I finally picked it up this afternoon. So far everything seems to work - although I've only used the basic drive, steer and keep out of the way of traffic on the Ring Road. Auto high beam is fabulous. Car is just so smooth, engine purrs and then growls when you ask. All those other lucky ones with cars have been soooo right - it is beautiful to drive. Going to see my daughter in Korumburra tomorrow - can't wait to get out on the open road.
