Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Congrats Colozzie - Enjoy the ride.

Auscop -You funny thing you (and your wife). Sitting in Baa Baa with wine. Mind you I did enjoy have ours parked right outside the kitchen window yesterday (she had to be moved so the tradesman could finish her carport) and I kept looking out and thinking, 'Gosh you're a lovely looking car'.

I would think that the build sheet is accurate "as built" including any changes made along the way. With this and a few shipping differences maybe CJD Oz swap the numbers around if they need to. What may have started as your E number may not be your end E number
Wouldn't it then be just a simple matter of letting the customer know. Why the secrecy and why keep the customer in the dark. It just leads to a lack of trust.

You can only let the customer know once a car in transit is allocated to the customer. And JeepAU are not doing that allocation until the last possible minute. So the customer is left hanging and reliant on the goodwill of the importer.

My experience with trying to buy a Jeep over the last 9 months.

Rule No 1. Never trust the dealer.

Rule No 2. See rule No 1.

Logic tells me that if an order is placed there would be something in the way of confirmation or acknowledgement at least from CJA back to the dealer that the order had been received and was to be processed this may not necessarily be an E number at that time but surely something that shows the dealer what orders have been placed and accepted.

In the preceding pages there are a number of posts regarding forgotten orders, incorrect orders etc. and that's only from those on this forum, how many other non forum customers this happens to who knows.

I don't thing there is any such thing as an order or allocation until such time as you actually receive an E number and there is nothing you can do about it other than to hope that one day your car will turn up and if your lucky it will be the model, colour, trim and options you prefer.

Good luck and don't stress, it doesn't seem to worry CJA or the dealers so don't let it worry you.

.
You have to remember that forums generally give you a false view of reality, and its always in the negative. The old adage was every happy customer will tell 1 person they are happy, but every unhappy customer will tell 10 they are unhappy.

Plenty would only have found this site because they were having issues, others have found problems only because of the increase in information they have from here - just look at the threads where people are searching for problems with their cars- I mean, way to make yourself grumpy! ( there is actually a thread with a list of possible problems so that people can go looking for them - it beggars belief that someone would try and make themselves unhappy like that )

For example I have 2 friends who have bought grand cherokee s in the last 4 months. Both bought existing stock off the floor , one paid way too much but doesn't know it, the other paid the right money, neither have a complaint. I bought an my14, and had only 3 weeks to wait until delivery.

The other issue that skews this forum is the " enthusiast" component as well. People want specific colour options and things like quadralift and pano roofs. Etc - things that ensure a car has to be built to your order, because they are rare as hens teeth as stock ( if not completely non existent )

The importer runs its business to keep the large majority happy, so popular colours, and popular options, and they expect customers who want a limited with a pano roof to be happy with what colour they have in stock.

Locally HSV used to do a factory tour I think it was every Tuesday afternoon for their customers at their plant at Clayton. You would meet the boss John Crennan it was when I went a few years ago, a interesting talk about the vehicles and what they do then a comprehensive tour of the plant including the design areas. Took about 2 hours and if you had a car on order at the time good chance of actually seeing it being transformed.
Good PR I thought.

On the other hand, such forums are a good platform for people to share their experiences; good or bad. Now with social media, the general population now have a voice, and those businesses who take note of what is being expressed, actually have an opportunity to obtain free market research data, they would otherwise pay a Marketing co. $Millions. Proactive thinking companies take heed of this information, because just the same way JC rose from oblivion, they can also dive back down....

When I get my Overland CRD (its actually been allocated to a ship!), then one of the first things to do is fit a second battery. From my reading so far, it seems the options are in the wheel well - small battery - or in a separate tied down box on the floor in the back. It also seems to be highly recommended to use a DC-DC converter, partly to ensure the charging system doesn't get confused, and partly to ensure the right voltage for, say, a fridge. I have yet to determine whether a separate battery isolator is required. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with Rule 1 & 2
But would add Rule 3
Never trust Jeep Australia
If in doubt refer to rule 1, 2, & 3

Those that undertake surveys or research will only ever take notice of the official marketing research Co.
This is simply because the surveys and other research questions are very specifically written for The required out come
Most companies are not interested in what the actual public think
The truth may case the CEO to be sacked
& we can't have that can we
