Conflicting info on service interval. My dealer said - "See you at 10000 km. no need for 1000 or 5000 km service". Those going in early are doing it for peace of mind? My service book doesn't gave anything earlier than 10000 km or 6 months.

1k is just a look over the car .. Make sure the engine is still in the engine bay and you Mention any nibbles you have.

It's a customer service thing and all good dealers do it. It's not a required thing, but they do throw a stamp in the log book

Does yours not say it on the window service sticker?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Our caravan comes with a camera! Top idea, dont think we will need mirrors. I think I saw one for sale in their shop, maybe around $300. We havent picked up the van yet, so I dont know how good it will be...

Complete hilarity ensues from family at the reaction of the car unlocking by magic.

Get in car, tell wife to put foot on brake, then press start.

Nothing.

Repeat process and instructions, again nothing. Do this 4 or 5 times, still car seems to want to start but nothing much happens. Eventually I get out go round to her door, hurl her to the ground , step in, and straight away it starts!

Anyway , we calmly drive home, get in garage and I say , ok let's re- enact the scene in the garage. She gets in, modifies the seat etc, puts the keys in the centre console, then puts her foot on the park brake and presses START. Me ; "WTF woman - that's not the flipping brake, that's a park brake you muppet!"

She again screams with laughter, while I tear another chunk of hair out that I can ill afford to lose.

So beware people, what seems like a simple instruction can be anything but simple.

Funny Funny Stuff!!!!

I think you will find that in some States ( if not all) that the extension mirrors are a legal requirement.

My advice and for peace of mind at least just change your oil and filter every 5000 km, you could always do it yourself.

Isn't that pretty old school, and now days with high quality synthetic oils, you could do far more than double the service intervals with no stress?

No, sorry Snuke I don't agree. I think there is too much marketing hype regarding some of these oils. As you would have read previously it is an undisputed fact that Diesel engines are very hard on lubricating oil, it's the blow by contaminates that cause the problem with oil, synthetic or not, but having said that if a manufacture is happy with 10000km oil changes then so be it.

But for my money I will be changing mine at 5000 km using standard recommended oil like Castrol Magnetic and possibly a synthetic oil for the transmission, which I currently run in my Nissan. So far this combination has worked well for me with over 300,000 km now on the clock.
At the end of the day I guess it is a personal choice, a lot does depend though on how long you are going to keep your GC, synthetics are ridiculously expensive.

The only thing you need to look out for its the maintenance free items. Now days about of manufacturers are installing "life time oil" in gearboxes. Don't learn the hard way, as I did, change your oil. I have a VW that ceased a gear box bearing, and the mechanic tells me he knows for a fact that the oil in the box when changed every 80k gives you many worry free kms. VW don't require a gearbox oil change ever, just a check and top up. That 1 bearing cost 6.5k to fix, 11k if VW did it. Much cheaper to change oil.

Hmm....Extension mirrors are usually attached to the car mirrors aren't they? I wonder how they will work when we lock the car and the mirrors fold in?
