Yes, I can confirm that is the case. Received a text message through VR the other day and I only had the car stopped with my foot on the foot brake. Still in Drive (D) - just stopped at the gate.

ETA: I'm just providing anecdata. We have no manual for the Uconnect Australian system. We have no manual at all for the Uconnect. I know they exist online but the US version does not help in any way. Everything that I report is just us playing around with the system and receiving whatever responses it gives us. It's trial and error all the way.

I'm able to listen to text messages with my Laredo whilst the car is moving , I had to change the settings in my iPhone 4S for Bluetooth then select the little blue arrow next to uconnect and check show notifications . I also tired to send a message by pressing the phone button and saying text every thing seems to go alright and the message is sent but message does not arrive read on an American thread that the issue for is the iphone it's self. I do think I'm having problems with the uconnect as my A/C is blowing hot air one side and cold the other. Looking at the manual I also note that some menus are not available ( eg manual says the you can turn the hill start assist on or off but I don't have that option on my menus.)

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Dear All,

I picked up my MY14 GC Overland CRD ORAII - Bright White today!

My wife went straight over and swapped the tyres for Yokohama Geolanders ($700 for all 4 tyres (after Kuhmo trade in) - I also bought extra for my camper trailer). A good deal I think. The Kuhmo's had already picked up stones in the tread driving from Mosman to Greenacre (45 min drive). I have posted a pick of the 2 tyres side by side (Khumo's on the right). The tyre man said that the Khumo's would last 30 seconds offroad... he was joking of course and trying to make us feel good about our purchase. It worked.

As far as tyre noise goes, the tyre man said the Geolanders would be noisier. I asked my wife if she could tell the difference... she couldn't hear the tyres over the hum of the engine. I good sign I think. I have only sat in the Jeep at idle, but I must say that the CRD engine hum is noticeably less then the chug of the MY13 CRD I test drove. I was concerned about getting a diesel over a petrol engine (didn't want a tractor) but I find the engine noise quite similar to a petrol engine noise really.

Our Jeep guy said a playlist was only available with the phone plugged in; not via bluetooth. I will try and make bluetooth work on the weekend.

Voice recognition working, but my wife had troubles getting the right 'voice' to make it work. Apparently this is because it is used to American voices and not Australian voices (according to Jeep guy).

I will also post a photo on the weekend of the cargo tray 'lip' caused by my full size spare in the spare tyre well.

My matching tyre and rim plan for the camper trailer is a bit up in the air... rim centre bore doesn't fit over standard 1500 kg axle / grease hub. This has been a problem mentioned before on other forums... I hope to find a solution.

Towbar optioned but not fitted as not available yet.

Well best wishes,

Sparky

Weird that the '11-'13 UConnect will read out SMS's while the car is driving.

Thanks in advance.

I do hope the dealership are looking into that rattle because that is not acceptable in a brand new car.

There is you, me and at least one other reporting heating problems with warm one side and cold on the other. I have been told that the fault lies in the Uconnect system. Mine is being replaced so Will post a report if it remedies the situation. Still waiting on the dealership to notify me when the Uconnect replacement arrives.

Thx for that- unfortunately doesn't look like the problem. Mine has a cable loom attached and so isn't really removable, and was tight and not touching anything - buggar me, it was hard to get to though!

Been following this forum for some time but just joined today. I picked up my 2014 Cashmere Pearl Laredo CRD last week from Maddington in Perth. So far I like the vehicle, though it took some getting used to coming from a Commodore sedan. It's only done 150kms to date and all is ok apart from the evic panel and gauges not working a few night's ago - has not done it since and a paint gouge above the rear number plate - looks like from a careless screwdriver when fitting the plates - which the dealer will assess at the 1k check up.

My main regret was not being able to option the sat-nav (I didn't want to pay the extra $10k for a limited. However a previous post regarding how the dealer can switch this feature on the USA (see you tube video below) has me intrigued. I asked the Perth dealer about it and he could get nothing back from Jeep Australia. It appears Jeep Australia do not want this functionality to be optioned or enabled in Australia as part of their marketing strategy is to push customers into the Limited or Overland models.

Alberts in Perth say they are a month away from an after-market solution but that will cost about $2k. However, they too were intrigued by the possibility that the existing uconnect screen could have the sat nav function "switched on" with perhaps a module and software updates, but again the information on this is sparse. Has anyone else looked into this? Any ideas how I could get further information on doing this?

Cheers

Hi chooke
There is an aftermarket product available in the US to let you install nav check out the link
