Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi All.
Picked up my new MY14 V6 TD Jeep GC Laredo last Friday. (Quadralift and Adventure pack fitted).
Extras included: Tow bar, redarc controller, 12 pin plug, leather (locally fitted using Jeep patterns - came up a treat too), bonnet protector, mud flaps, rear cargo mat.
So 250 km in... love the smooth power and the quietness of the V6 (traded my 2008 Pajero).
Can't wait to hook up the caravan and try it out.
Thanks again for everyone's contributions.
Finally - extended warranty - underwritten by IAG/Swan insurance. $2550 What do you reckon?
Cheers
Andrew

From what I have read in the past you tend to pay more in WA. If you are getting the Pano roof, Harmon Kardon audio and tow bar then $85k-$90K is a good deal. Especially considering your location and the unwillingness of the dealer to discount. Over in NSW sub $85k is excellent pricing.

EDIT: if no pano or HK audio then that should save you about $4k.

Sounds like you got a good deal there. MY14? They are quoted here in Qld as around $57 drive away without QLift or Adventure pack (adding about $4k).
The leather cost me $3k and is of a quality more like the Overlander than the Limited.
Cheers

Yes my14. You mean better quality leather than limited? I have never seen overland leather. How about sat nav? Found a way to upgrade ?
Thanks

A Trailhawk and a SRT under the same roof?
Now there is a pedigree household. Please adopt me.

No worries, I was probably being a bit thin skinned. It depends on the day or night light, the colour does change subtly from sandstone to a goldish/very light purple tinge.

I meant overland. Which is better than the Limited. Mine is perforated nappa leather. Very nice. Cut using original Jeep patterns I'm told thus it looks factory fitted.
No satnav. Using a Garmin 3597 unit on the bottom right of the window. Works well.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Niggly issues

G'day

I've now done nearly 400kms of city, mostly/start-stop driving and still have over half a tank of fuel. I have been noting some minor issues for dealer to assess at the 1k km check. Some of these are experienced by others here but I thought I'd post them in case there are others that are common. I'd be interested to hear the outcome from your issues.

1. Evic display disappeared (only happened once so far)
2. Climate control has a mind of its own - eg both sides set at 21c but sometimes blows excessive heat at one side, and at different times. On one day, it was a cool day, it got so hot at 21c I had to open all windows and turn it down to 18c - which then made it too cold.
3. dash backlight sometimes does not come on during the day. I use the headlights on auto. I'm not sure if the backlight is supposed to be on during the day but when it is not, the speedo, gauges and LCD screen are almost impossible to read. Whether the backlight comes on or off is independent to how bright it is outside.
4. the front speakers sometimes sound as if the cones are torn when listening to AM radio.
5. A dull, clunking sound when riding over speed humps at slow speed.
6. A vibration behind the dash at idle.
7. Lower outside trim on rear door coming adrift.

This sounds like a lot of issues, but they are minor and usually par for course for any complex newly released model car. Hopefully they will be ironed out by the first major service.

Another thing which I find annoying (it is not a fault as such) is that although the automatic wipers work very well, it is not that easy to set the sensitivity when you are driving along. It should not matter but if you need just a wipe you have to turn the switch and then have to find your setting again. For example, if you push on the wand so it washes as well as wipes, you then have to reset the automatic setting sensitivity.
