We have an older HR brake controller on our Pajero, and it seems to do the job well, we have never had an issue with it.
There are several models these days
Hayman Reese Brake Controllers
Which did they install?
They are all rebadged something, if it is a rebadged Tekonsha, then yes it is better than the Redarc. (1 & 3 on the link are Tekonsha, 4 is a Redarc)
The Redarcs are great because they take up no room and can be neatly installed in easy reach with just a little button showing.
However, they are not progressive. That is, with Tekonsha, they increase the brake pressure applied in the same way as you increase your cars brakes pressure.
Redarcs, you set the max brake force, and when you apply the brake pedal, that is the force applied to the trailer. You can adjust the pressure with the dial.
With the Tekonsha, you set the max pressure, but it only hits that setting when you apply full brake force. This is done with an internal pendulum that operating on inertial forces.
Slow down quickly, pendulum moves quickly, more brake force, slow down slowly, pendulum moves less, less brake force is applied.
We (the dealer) will be installing our Tekonsha in the GCs media cubby.
See the pics in the Towing Thread I took of how it will easily fit
my controller in the cubby
This is all better off in the tow thread.
