Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

To help pass the time i was going to post the question earlier webber of - when you guys get your new jeep, will you actually take it 4wding?

I had a 4wd (1994 mitsu pajero) for a few years before i sold it in '08 and bought an ss ute. Now with an 18 mth baby im over not being able to take him in my car and only being able to take the missus' captiva. I absolutely cant wait to get into the jeep - i know its ALOT flasher then an old pajero but im fanging to get it off road. Obviously it wont be hard core stuff, but itll do its fair share of decent off road stuff.

So anyone else planning on doing much off road? Or is it mainly going to be a tow vehicle etc. I know its off topic but trying to pass the time!

Well, we have to talk about something whilst waiting word from MILOUS.
I actually wanted the Summit which is more an on road car than off road. Unless Milous comes up with that NEWSFLASH I am awaiting it is almost certainly an OVERLAND for me....bright white with Light frost interior. I will travel around and across Australia in it but not sure about too much off roading. Have thought of joining a Jeep club but what I can see about those guys is that they are serious off roaders. Taking a brand new car through rough bush would give me night mares but who knows where this Jeep will lead me.

Replacing a Lexus RX350. I have young kids too, so mine (Overland CRD) will be the school bus plus tug for a van. Haven't done any off-roading to date but am looking forward unhitching the van, finding some hills and seeing what the Jeep can do. Kids may have left home by the time it arrives, but........

I've had four real 4x4 in the past and some SUVs and if you go "proper" off roading your going to scratch and ding up the vehicle. I'm not about to put a bullbar, rails and steel rear bar on a vehicle worth close to $80k however I would like to do some trips and mild trails without overhanging scrub.. this destroys your paintwork in one single outing (learnt the hard way in a brand new dark blue 100 series cruiser many moons ago) while these things are capable they are really the off roader of tomorrow.. I.e. when they are a $15-20K vehicle in 5 years time.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

If I can be bothered waiting mine will definitely be going off road. Not mud bogging like my current rig but definitely crawling up and down rocky slopes to get me to those out of the way camping spots.

Get the white paint if you are worried about scratches. Being non-metalic, it is much easier to polish out any minor scractes and is thicker so that it is less easily damaged.

what an excellent point Mark. The offroader of tomorrow. When its only worth that much it will be worth keeping just for bush bashing. Take it through the Centre or up into Cape York..... and then go out and buy a beautiful MY18 to MY20 for onroading again.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

We have had two Pajero’s (Current is 2005 Exceed), and the only reason we have these and wanting the Jeep is to tow the horses.
So no off-roading for us.

Tested the current Exceed a few months ago when I decided we need to replace our one. On the same lot was Jeep, didn’t even look at it.
I didn’t have good memories of Jeep and their piss poor quality, so just walked past it.
Got home and was doing a little research when up comes the GC as 4WD of the year, again. Start doing some reading and see that Chrysler seem to be getting their shit together.
Went back to the same place a week later and test drive a Ltd Diesel. Night and Day compared to the Pajero. No surprise really when you consider how old the Paj is now.

Then I stupidly(?) did some more reading and found out about MY14, and decided to hold off rather than considering the demo we drove which would have been perfect.

With regards to the comment about the "Melbourne dealer placing orders and Jeep AU accepting them and suggesting VON / E numbers would be available early this week"; has this actually happenned? Has anyone had confirmation of order acceptance by Jeep AU? Have any tracking numbers been made available?

Milous, have you have any tracking numbers given to you yet for Australian vehicles? Have any of these been SRT models?
