Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Hi all,
I thought I'd come on here and give a quick review of my brightwhite MY14 Overland. I've done over 2000kms and had one 4x4 trip in Toolangi National Park, Vic.

The car exceeded my expectations when it came to its 4x4 capabilities, the trooper (my friends think it looks like a storm trooper, hence the nickname) handled the mud, rock and short puddles with absolute ease. The road handling is impressive and responsive, but I do need to remind myself it's not a sports car even though I am happy with the engine and transmission response.

My only issue is the uconnect system, it seems each time I try to start the car with my phone plugged in to the USB point, the screen would go completely black and I would loose all its functions. I tried to restart the car without the phone plugged in but alas still a completely black screen. I went on google and found a post with a reset to bring the screen back, and Yeah it worked. (Turn the car onto acc, hold the 2 redundant buttons for 15 seconds and then restart the car and press the screen and it should come back) I brought it to my local jeep dealer who couldn't explain it and said I shouldn't leave my phone plugged in the car at start up. Hopefully this will be passed on to the jeep programmers to include a fix in the next upgrade.

Other than that I love this car, the looks, the feel, the drive and most importantly to me the 4x4 experience. I hope everyone else who has one loves theirs as much.

Hey mate,

Are you getting the dual US or single AU tow hooks fitted? I originally asked for the dual hooks but my dealership said they weren't rated for Australia so I'd have to get the single hook which is apparently rated for offroad recovery situations.

Another couple of weeks and I should have it
Congrats Blakey, I know the feeling, longest 3 months ever for me too!!

Out of curiosity, when did you order yours?

Remember you now have to go into a Toyota dealership and get in an Prado Altitude and see if you would have been happy going down that road.

Hey Lewie77
I ordered mine early June, however I was lucky that Chrysler jeep had the exact same spec vehicle pre-ordered
Was built on the 21/6 and left Baltimore about three weeks ago.
Hopefully yours isn't to far away!

I thought mine was buggered too. It may not help out all but something worth trying. My VR seems to work on everything except for dialing names in my phone book (which is populated on uconnect).

Another weird thing I noticed is that under the "safety & driving assistance" menu in settings, the first 5 menu options will not hold your selection. So if I select "far" for the collision warning, after approx 5 seconds it reverts back to near. The other weird thing is I have forward collision warning active breaking selected "off" (again will not stay on if I tick the "on" box) but it is actually turned on because it went off last night and jammed the brakes on when a car suddenly slowed down in front of me. It's also the same deal for blind spot monitoring as well as park sense which says they're both turned off (again tick the "on" box and it reverts back to off after 5 seconds) but they are actually both turned on and functioning. Very very weird.

Other than the above issues which I'm sure will be sorted with a software update at some stage, it's a cracker of a car. It's extremely comfy with enough gadgets to keep any tech junky satisfied. I'm 6'5 and very long in the legs, my wife is 5'6 so i can never get into a car after she has been driving without putting the seat back first. Having the memory seat function on the key fob would have to be one of the features I appreciate the most so far!

Putting my faith in the ACC for the first time was extremely bizarre and freaked me out a little. I came up to slow moving traffic in an 80 zone and started getting pretty nervous but it worked very well and as one would expect.
I will have a look at mine but I do not believe the VR button responds to anything. I will check out my "safety & driving" settings but I think all that will be working. Will let you know when next in my car in a couple of days from now (working all weekend).
It's a shame these Uconnect problems are occurring to spoil what is a sensational car.

Hi Iwantanotherjeep,
All this tyre swapping thing that members are doing is amusing me. Is this costing you guys megabucks. I cannot see anything wrong with my Khumo's but then again I am not about to do any rock climbing. Those replacement tyres costing $1688.00 is probably the going price for 20" tyres (as I know 20" are expensive) but is $400.00 a fair trade in. What would it have cost to purchase 20" Khumos? Would they not be worth hundreds and hundreds nore than $400 for 20" tyres? I would have thought it more practical to just use those 20" Khumos and then upgrade to true off road tyres when the steel threads start popping through your Khumos?

I'm with you Webber. Unless anyone is immediately going off road, why bother. If anyone in Perth have a new set to sell, I'll up the trade-in value and give you $500 for 4. We've done 50k, will likely go to 60k with the original Kumhos.

I'm just curious that's all. It's just that a few months ago when in at Werribee Jeep a favourite customer of Werribee Jeep who runs a Caravan and and machinery hire business was in buying about his 50th Jeep over the past 17 years and he was swearing by the JGC. He said far superior to Toyotas etc. for pulling his large caravans to business sites. I asked him "why is it that everyone is canning the Khumos" and his response was that the tyres are fine. He had no complaint with them.....and I thought, "Why would Chrysler HQ deliberately put crappy tyres (Khumo's) on their flagship vehicle. Perhaps members have memories of past Khumo's but do they know for a fact that the current Khumo's on the Overland are still that bad?
I've been around long enough to remember when Japanese cars were crap....but look how far they have come over time.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

The Khumo are not a bad tyre in regards to performance, but they wear way to fast.
Mine only lasted 25,000km which is way to early for a tyre that is not a performance one. I replaced mine with Cooper who provide a 50k km warranty on them.
I do not know how anyone could get 50k km+ out of a OEM set, but I guess a lot of highway miles is kinder on the rubber than the city driving I do.
