Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Webber, I discovered this the other day re: the radio.

From the SD card I can say: Play Track 04 (for example) and it will work. I can also say: Play Lynyrd Skynyrd and it does, however, the same will not work with a CD.

Play Track 4 didn't work for me the other day with the CD so I tried Play Number 4 and it did.

I keep meaning to find a decent amount of time and just sit in it and test. I think I can do that today. Shall report back to you. But can't test music stored on a phone - just SD card and CD. (I'm one of those weird people that actually use and like the CD player).

ETA: I also found this on the Uconnect quick reference guide. Not sure if it makes any difference but it states this:

Quote:
VR commands for Album, Artists, and Genre names are based on the music database provided by Gracenote,
Inc.
Who are Gracenote? Need to do some searching...

How are yours going with respect to the Radio and Nav at the moment.
Webber, So far the Nav has worked flawlessly, apart for the one time on the trip home it lost sync and it had us driving off just to the right of the real road. However I have seen this happen a few times before in my other Garmin I own. A quick power cycle fixed the issue. Radio works well here not that I have used it much. We mainly tested the VR on the way home from Sydney and had no real issues. To tell the truth, I keep forgetting it is there and ended up doing must things manually. Will have to test it out more this morning on the way to work. Climate control has only messed up once so far and was quick to set straight.

That is what she tells me too, I just believed her assuming it was another feature we missed out on with the export model.

Are you saying that voice navigation "should" work?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

Snuke, obviously love is in the eye of the beholder. Those picks of my car you have re-posted look amazing. Such class. I prefer it to the beige with black so their you go. Life would be very boring if we were all the same. Also, I know you and some other experts are dismissing these Uconnect problems and un-aligned doors, console lids, etc are minor but are you also telling us this is quite normal in comparison to other top end cars? Too me this problem appears to be mounting to be becoming quite a major problem to rectify. Maybe all the wingers are gravitating to this forum but if this forum is indicative of whats happening in the mainstream then Chrysler are going to have to fix thousands upon thousands of cars. I cannot understand how they would not be concerned.

Read Pomdave's post just below yours as well. Does you Nav give that answer. VR will change my Radio stations but will not understand my commands with respect to music changes via my Iphone, even when connected up directly through the USB point. Getting back to Nav...it works with manually putting in address for me too but are you trying to give it an address via the VR button?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee information - Australia

this is an extract directly from the Uconnect supplment:

Things You Should Know About Your Uconnect®
Phone
Voice Command
• For best performance, adjust the rearview mirror to
provide at least ˝ in (1 cm) gap between the overhead
console (if equipped) and the mirror.
• Always wait for the beep before speaking.
• Speak normally, without pausing, just as you would
speak to a person sitting a few feet/meters away from
you.
• Make sure that no one other than you is speaking
during a voice command period.
• Performance is maximized under:
• low-to-medium blower setting,
• low-to-medium vehicle speed,
• low road noise,
• smooth road surface,
• fully closed windows,
• dry weather condition.
• Even though the system is designed for users speaking
in North American English, French, and Spanish accents,
the system may not always work for some.
• When navigating through an automated system such
as voice mail, or when sending a page, before speaking
the digit string, make sure to say “Send”.
• It is recommended that you do not store names in your
favorites phonebook while the vehicle is in motion.
• Phonebook (Mobile and Favorites) name recognition
rate is optimized when the entries are not similar.
• You can say “O” (letter “O”) for “0” (zero).
• Even though international dialing for most number
combinations is supported, some shortcut dialing
number combinations may not be supported.
• In a convertible vehicle, system performance may be
compromised with the convertible top down.
Far End Audio Performance
• Audio quality is maximized under:
• low-to-medium blower setting,
• low-to-medium vehicle speed,
• low road noise,
• smooth road surface,
• fully closed windows,
• dry weather conditions, and
• operation from the driver’s seat.
• Performance, such as audio clarity, echo, and loudness
to a large degree rely on the phone and network, and
not the Uconnect® Phone.
• Echo at the far end can sometimes be reduced by
lowering the in-vehicle audio volume.
• In a convertible vehicle, system performance may be
compromised with the convertible top down.
Voice Texting
Uconnect® Phone can read or send new messages on
your phone.
Your phone must support Voice Texting over Bluetooth®
in order to use this feature. If the Uconnect® Phone
determines your phone is not compatible with Voice
Texting messaging over Bluetooth® the “Messaging”
button will be greyed out and the feature will not be
available for use.
NOTE: Uconnect® Phone Voice Texting is only available
when the vehicle is not in moving.

Page 83 of this supplement (US Version) also tells you what commands it will recognise.

That Gracenote notation looks ominous to me and should have been modified for Australian conditions. Is anyone downloading music via this so called "Gracenote". Also, I aint got your type of memory capabilities to remember that "she was only 16" by Marty Robbins was at track 163.

Does this mean it will never recognize an Album or Artist newer than the radio? or will we be getting regular db updates.

If it knows Presley and not abba I think it must already be running a very old Gracenote db

That's fine, but when you sat in that car in the showroom with the Salesman did he point out to you when about to sign the contract that the Uconnect system does not work ...."but that's ok" he said, "Some of the features work"?

Would you have hesitated if he said the VR button is just their as wheel decoration but does not actually work, "but, hey, it looks really neat"

Now, I have a very real issue that I only discovered this morning whilst browsing the general JeepGarage threads. You know, all those other threads - I especially like WK ones since we have one of those also.

Anyway, I cannot remember which thread I was reading but I noticed someone's byline had ordered a MY14 with NEW ZEALAND interior.

I did a double take and thought excuse me! Someone did not tell me about this! I googled and found this:

.

Why didn't I get that option? I would have ordered it from purely patriotic reasons. Not fair - not happy.

Has anyone been given the NZ interior option (I'll forgive you if you declined) but is this an option Downunder?

Here's a pic from the web.

I have ordered Black/Light Frost, it looks very much like your image link.
If I can figure out how add a pic, I'll add one soon.

Looks like I've done it.........

we didnt buy the car becuase it had VR, we bought it as it was a great overall package. we had no expectations of the VR working, as we knew from past experiences. Sure it would be great if it worked every time, and knew everything we wanted, but we didnt expect it would, and it doesnt.

I am going to polish up on a deep southern accent and give it another go later today. Will come back to you with the outcome.
